Results and Conclusion: Testing of the Tagan ITZ 1300w PSU featured the following hardware: Enclosure: Antec P190 (Noctua NF-S12 intake fans) Power Supply: Tagan ITZ 1300w Processor: AMD 3800+ X2 (Socket AM2) Motherboard: ECS KA3 MVP Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2gig (2 x 1gig) DDR2 PC2-6400 Video: GECUBE Radeon X1950 PRO 256MB DDR3 PCIe x16 HDCP Edition Storage: Seagate 7200.10 320 GB SATA2 Optical: Plextor PX-740UF PATA ![]() As you can see, the Tagan ITZ power supply barely winced under our tests. I think I actually could hear a bit of laughter coming through my speakers when I started up the rig for the first time. The difference between idle and load was, well, nonexistent! From boot to full out video rendering and Bioshock gaming, the multi-meter barely even flickered. I would suspect that under a full load of hard drives and multiple graphics cards, you might begin to see a difference but it would have to be a full load! Obviously any power supply over 1kw is going to be way more than even the ‘more-than-average’ gamer is going to need. I honestly wish I could afford the drive array, Crossfired cards, and physics cards to try and even come close to the power that is being held back within this power supply unit. Tagan has done an excellent job of implementing needs vs. features; more weighing in on the side of features. The ITZ series of power supplies has everything that a diehard gaming, rendering, or over clocker could ever dream for except for one thing. Modular cables have become an industry standard implementation and with this many leads on a power supply, I would expect that modular cables would be a given. On the other hand a power supply of this magnitude, from a manufacturer’s point of view, should be installed in a full tower file server or a hard core gamer’s rig, but even with these two variables, one is not going to be using the full gambit of SATA leads, and the other is not going to be using the multiple graphics card leads. With almost unlimited power at your disposal, a better than beautiful Blue mirror finish, power leads to your heart’s content, and quiet operation even under warm conditions; I consider the Tagan ITZ 1300w PSU a Kickass product. Our thanks go to Tagan for their supply of this review sample and their continued support of 3dGameMan.com! > ADDITIONAL INFO/COMMENTS IN THE FORUMS < |
