A Closer Look:

With the packaging and protective coverings removed from the Acer AL2216W monitor, you have a large 22” LCD screen staring you in the face. This screen is very large when compared to a 17” and 19” LCD monitor. The screen surface is that of about two and a half full sheets of A1 paper!

The bezel of the AL2216W features an 11/16” border. While not the slimmest bezel out there, this size is more than acceptable. The base of the Acer monitor is pre-mounted and does not require any assembly. The base, while small, keeps this large monitor very sturdy. The front button interface is comprised of five buttons. From left to right you have the AUTO/selection button, the left and right selection buttons, the MENU button and the power button.

At the side, you can see that the Acer LCD monitor has a very slim profile. The Acer profile is actually slimmer than our HP LCD we last reviewed. The negative tilt on the Acer screen is virtually non-existent while the positive tilt can get you about 20°.

At the back of the monitor you can see that the only extrusions from the panel’s main shape are that of the plug areas and the internal PCB and converters. I really like this minimalist approach. This approach also favors those that utilize monitor arms that mount with the VESA standard.

This monitor features a removable base. Simply remove the hinge’s shroud and unscrew the hinge from the monitor’s frame. At the bottom of the base are five rubber pads that aid in gripping and prevention of scratching the desktop surface.

Near the top of the Acer LCD panel, there are a large number of ventilation slots to help keep the internal components cool. This ventilation is followed down each side of the frame as well. At the bottom, there is the power, DVI-D and VGA cable connections.
