Introduction:

Zotac is not a well known brand around these parts and it hasn’t been until recently(this last year as far as I can tell) that you have started seeing their products even available at North American E-tailers. The Zotac website does not feature much about them specifically as seen below:

ZOTAC International is one of the largest producers Worldwide of Nvidia VGA and motherboard solutions. As part of the PC Partner Ltd group, we are able to draw upon over 10 years of quality manufacturing experience, producing some of the most technically advanced products available in the World today. Our philosophy is deliver quality leading edge products, at competitive prices, to our customers.

Today Geeks.com has provided us one of Zotac’s video cards for review. The Zotac 8600GTS video card is based off of the current 8*** generation of GPUs from nVidia. This generation of cards use the 80nm G84 die featuring 289m transistors. Essentially the G84 is a lean and trim G80 core.

Here are some specs from the nVidia website comparing the difference between the GTS and GT versions of the 8600 series cards:

As you can see the GTS is a clear step up in regards to pure MHz and for only a $40 difference at the writing of this review, is well worth the additional performance. Below are some addition specs on this specific sample from Zotac’s website:
