#933 - Glacial Tech Igloo 5750 CPU Coolers
Page 2: Overview
Page 3: Installation, Results and Conclusion

Installation, Results and Conclusion:

For testing of the Glacial Tech Igloo 5750 CPU coolers, we used the following hardware:

Enclosure: Antec P190 (Noctua NF-S12 intake fans) with included PSU's

Processor: AMD 3800+ X2 (Socket AM2)

Motherboard: ECS KA3 MVP

Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2gig (2 x 1gig) DDR2 PC2-6400

Video: Zotac 8600GTS 256mb 256bit DDR3 PCI-E x16

Internal Storage: 2 x 320gig Seagate 7200.10 SATA2 RAID0

Optical: Plextor PX-740UF

To install the Glacial Tech Igloo 5750 CPU coolers, you will first need to make sure you have the correct mounting hardware in place. By default, the Igloo comes with the Intel mounting system in place. If you are planning on using this system, you will want to make sure all your screws are nice and snug as we found a couple of them slightly loose. Of you will be installing on an AMD platform, you will need to switch out the push-pin style Intel brackets for the screw-down type AMD brackets.

Glacial Tech includes some hex-shaped screws for installation of the cooler to the motherboard. You use your factory motherboard mounting bracket found on the back side of the motherboard. During our testing, we found that the AMD brackets were very stiff and the included screws too short for our motherboard’s mounting bracket. Instead we reused the original mounting screws from ECS.

During the benchmarking sessions with this cooler, we found that neither of the two coolers was ever really audible over our P190’s case fans on the “low” settings. While the PWM version of the cooler ran a bit warmer, it still does a great job. If I had no case fans going during the testing session, I would assume the PWM would be a bit quieter but since 90% of users include their case fans, we kept with this method.

With temperatures stay under 40°C at load and idle temps hovering around 30°C, these coolers would be a great replacement for any retail stock cooler. For the power cooling enthusiast, these would not hit the sweet spot. For any silent system builder, these would be a great addition to your setup. One of the great things about these coolers is the fact that they give decent performance without falling into the larger than life tower coolers out there. Over all the Glacial Tech Igloo 5750 CPU coolers are great products. They provide great silent cooling with decent vertical clearance. Our thanks go to Glacial Tech for their supply of this review sample and their support of 3dGameMan.com!
