Page 4 of 6 A Closer Look: There's no mistaking the size of this memory it's rather large when compared to normal DDR2 modules. Although it's not large enough to interfere with any computer components so don't worry that this memory is to large in that respect. While the heatsink is cool, there's nothing really fancy about the PCB (printed circuit board), it's green! Actually green is fine with me since everything is going 'GREEN' these days anyway ;)     What makes them so large is the large heatsink and wavy fins. A lot of new memory now come with some fancy heatsink, but I really like how well they crafted this. If you look at the pictures below in full resolution you will notice how precise it is. So do heat spreaders like this help keep memory cool. Sure, but great case air circulation is required to help take away all the heat generated by these modules. If you've ever felt memory without good air circulation you will know how hot it can get.   Below is a diagram illustrating the thermal heat pattern difference between modules without heat spreader and one with a heat spreader. As you can see the ones with the G.Skill heat spreader spreads the heat evenly and away from the module.  Each modular has an information stickers indicating the memory's model number, part number, and batch number. Also note the cool Pi branding, very quite ;) Why did they select this Greek letter? Well it might have something to do with the fact the Pi is one of the most important mathematical constants ;)   |
