Introduction:
First, a little about the company, Razer
USA Ltd. They are best known as Razer. This next blurb is from their website
on their company structure:
"Razer is the
world's leading brand in high-end computer gaming peripherals. We reinvented the
computer gaming industry by bringing the competitive edge to gamers when
professional computer gaming was in its infancy. In the mid 90s, with the advent
of networked gaming and competitive first-person-shooter (FPS) games, gamers
found that their legacy peripherals were inhibiting rather than enhancing their
gameplay.
In the late 90s, after years of research and development, the Razer Boomslang
gaming mouse, the stuff of gaming legends, was launched. Featuring an
unprecedented precision of up to 2000 dpi when other mice maxed out at 400 dpi,
the Razer Boomslang offered up to five times the accuracy of other gaming mice
of its time. The Razer Boomslang's precision technology was powered by
proprietary opto-mechanical technology developed by the Razer engineering team
and its sleek design and profile sculpted by ergonomics experts of its day.
And the rest is history. The Razer Boomslang is now part of gaming culture and
legend with some of the top gamers of its time adopting it as their weapon of
choice. Jonathon Fatal1ty Wendell, Sujoy Roy, Hakeem and Xenon, some of the many
professional gamers that have sworn by their Razer Boomslang gaming mice.
While the Razer Boomslang has been succeeded by the Razer Viper, which
featured a 1000 dpi optical engine, the next quantum leap in computer gaming
peripherals arrived when Razer unveiled the Razer Diamondback in San Francisco
at the Grand Finals of the World Cyber Games 2004.
The Razer Diamondback is the world's first 1600 dpi optical gaming mouse.
Powered by Razer Precision, the Razer Diamondback was the first gaming mouse
in the world to sweep all the major gaming awards available at that time. It
also outclassed an entire genre of gaming hardware to be awarded the highly
coveted Gamespot's Gaming Hardware of the Year 2004 accolade. The Razer
Diamondback was considered the de rigueur gaming mouse of its prime with most
of the leading gaming professionals adopting it as their weapon of choice.
Having led the technology arms race and overpowering its competitors for the
past few years, Razer has stamped its leadership in gaming technology in the
fall of 2005 again. In the hallowed tradition of the Razer Boomslang and the
Razer Diamondback, we decided to revolutionize the gaming mouse again in 2005.
The Razer Copperhead is the world's most advanced mousing peripheral today.
It's the world's first laser gaming mouse, the world's only thinking mouse and
the world's fastest gaming mouse.
Featuring a laser sensor Powered by Razer Precision, the Razer Copperhead has
an unparalleled tracking precision of up to 2000 dpi. It is also the fastest
mouse today utilizing a full speed USB bus when other mice are still low speed
USB devices. The Razer Copperhead is up to 8 times faster in terms of data
polling and is also the first mouse in the world to feature onboard memory
capabilities Powered by Razer Synapse. Each Razer Copperhead can also be
personalized in terms of weights and buttons to meet the demanding standards of
professional gamers.
Undoubtedly, Razer is the worldwide leader in terms of professional gaming
peripherals. While we are light years ahead of our competitors in terms of
technology, design and ergonomics, we are not resting on our laurels but are
developing other key products and peripherals with the gamer in mind to bring
that competitive edge to gameplay that Razer is synonymous with.
Razer is headquartered in San Diego, California and is distributed worldwide in
all major countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Razer designs, manufactures and markets cutting-edge gaming peripherals that
provide professional computer gamers with the competitive edge through a
combination of proprietary technology, innovation and ergonomic industrial
design. Razer's research and development team collaborates with leading
professional gamers to develop proprietary technology for next generation gaming
peripherals. Razer's superiority in gaming peripherals stems from its ability to
understand and conceptualize peripherals that gamers need and thereafter bring
the product from drawing board to the retail shelves.
In short, we are a company of gamers who build products for gamers. Each Razer
peripheral bears the invisible signature of hundreds of professional gamers,
gaming enthusiasts and engineers and each Razer gaming product is built from
single components; pieced and assembled with care and precision so as to
optimize the gameplay for all professional gamers worldwide. Engineered to near
perfection, Razer's reputation of being the leaders in gaming technology is
embodied in every single Razer product."~

Many of you may remember the Boomslang or maybe owned one yourself. This was
their very first mouse product and it was realized way back in 1990. In 2004 I
reviewed the Razer Viper Mouse. This product was very impressive with a
1000 DPI hardware-based optical engine. It
was a fantastic gaming mouse and truly loved by many gamers. The quick response
and customizable software set it apart from other mice products at that time. As
of late, Razer have introduced their newest mouse, the high tech Copperhead.
Let's get on with the review!
