Conclusion:
Thermalright has once again made us proud with their zeal to
innovate. The Ultra-120 heat sink proves once again that their heat pipe
technology, teamed up with a low noise 120mm fan, can produce great results and
as we see in the results, even without a fan, the Ultra-120 is willing to do
its job! This truly is a great product that could be used in a number of
situations. With the ability to fit on any K8, 775 and AM2 sockets, this cooler
proves its worth with any processor. You may even try using this monstrous
tower of a cooler in a fan-less environment (with the right conditions)! There
are some issues that you may consider before buying though. With the
Ultra-120’s ultra huge size, it may not fit in all enclosures, as we saw having
to remove the fan duct from the Ultra Aluminus’ window. A second issue is that
you can not change the direction the cooler faces. If the cooler points to the
exhaust fan, you maybe be able to get rid of most of the hot air. In our tests,
it was pointing to the PSU’s 120mm exhaust fan. This is a low RPM fan and not
an ideal route to send your heated air flow. This may not affect many users,
but for the overclockers out there, this could be a deciding factor. All in all
this is simply put, a KICKASS cooler!
