Introduction:
Ever since Wolfenstein 3d came out, gaming has been a very hot market for
computers. This demand has pushed countless technology advancements that include
graphics cards, motherboards and more. With the demand for bigger and better
graphics cards comes a high price. A single brand new, top of the technological
line, nVidia 8800GTX will cost you just short of $700! While teaming these up in
SLI would double that cost to $1400 and adding in a physics card, while not
necessary, would put the price up another $200. While we can all sleep at night,
dreaming of our imaginary gaming systems, most of us will wake up and will scour
the Internet looking for the best deal/combination of hardware that will best
meet our needs while at the same time not putting us into bankruptcy!
This is why I set out to see what I could come up with on a very strict budget
(sub $90/card). What I found was a couple of budget x1600 Pros from Geeks.com.
Many thanks to Geeks for their support of this site and this review! These cards
are no name brand cards and to most PC enthusiasts would be over looked, but I
remind you that at the time of receiving these cards you were still not able to
find a x1600 Pro for less than $120. At the publishing time of this review,
there are now a few name brand x1600s available for around $90. This will be a
test of generic OEM video cards against name brand cards. Well, let's take a
look at what we received from Geeks!
