Installation 1/2:

Using our AMD Socket AM2 test bed, we have to use the AM2 mounting hardware that was conveniently packaged individually away from the Intel and other AMD hardware. We have chosen to mount the NH-U12 vertically so that the hot air blows towards the 120mm exhaust fan at the back of the case. With the orientation of the socket on our ECS KA3 MVP motherboard, this requires the hardware to be mounted to the base below the fins. You will want to place the spring and screws through the 'U' shaped brackets before you screw them down as you will not be able to after you screw down the second mounting screw. If your motherboard has a 90 degree different orientation than our test board, then you can easily mount the hardware on the sides.

Before you mount a fan to the Noctua heat sink, you will want to adhere the included rubber anti-vibration strips to the cooler's fins. Simple remove the backings and place along the sides next to the 'T' shaped corners. Next mount the wire fan clips from behind these 'T' shapes and the two arms will come around to mount almost any 120mm fan. If you remember with the Thermalright Ultra-120 cooler, we had to modify one of our fans to accommodate the included fan brackets. This design is something that Thermalright should think about adopting!

With a single 120mm fan mounted, you may also choose to mount a second fan on the other side. This is just as easy as the first side using a second set of included anti-vibration strips and wire fan mounting clips.
