The installation instructions for the OCZ XTC cooler are found on the back of the packaging insert. These instructions are really straight forward with no real detail, but are easy to read and follow. Though not mentioned in the instructions, there are two white washers for between the bracket mounting screws and the brackets. This is not to be placed between the bracket and the XTC cooler as it will create a loose installation.
As mentioned before, there are two different types of mounting brackets included with the cooler. They are for the most part identical except for that one set of brackets include a ‘tooth’ in the middle of the rubber grips. These ‘teeth’ are to help center the cooler and prevent the cooler from sliding. If you happen to have a setup that requires you to mount the cooler in a specific fashion that does not accommodate the ‘teeth’ brackets, you can use the ‘non-toothed’ version of the brackets. The brackets also include full length slots to mount with. This helps in positioning the cooler as far out as possible when using large CPU coolers.
Included with the OCZ XTC cooler, are two different screw types for mounting the brackets to the cooler. There are two normal screws that require a Phillips screw driver. There are also two thumb screws. I found that these thumb screws are a bit more convenient in use as the normal screws require you to remove the motherboard from the chassis for installation of removal. Some motherboards may have peripheral items surrounding the memory modules which might not allow the thumb screws. In this case, the normal screws may be of more convenience.
The XTC memory cooler, as are the mounting brackets, are completely chromed out. This makes for a very attractive finish. There are lots of ventilation holes along the top of the cooler. This allows for air to pass through and be pushed by the 60mm fans onto the memory modules. I would have liked to have seen a more efficient mesh here like honey-comb or something to the like. This would allow more air to pass through with less air noise and strain on the fans.
