Display (Monitor):
Now, the display. Well, there are two options, the older but very adorable CRT
or newer LCD (sometimes referred to as TFT). CRT or Cathode Ray Tube is a dated
technology but does offer excellent color, especially in dark gaming
environments. The disadvantage to CRTs is they cause eyestrain and are very
heavy. So I would rule them out and go with a Liquid Crystal Display. There are
two different formats to choose from: Fullscreen and Widescreen. Considering
that widescreen LCDs are now affordable, I would recommend going that route.
When selecting a widescreen LCD remember to get one with a response time of 8ms
or better to avoid ghosting. Ghosting happens when the pixels creating the image
take to long to switch on and off creating a burred/distorted effect. Thankfully
ghosting is not a problem with the latest LCDs. Also, be sure the LCD has
a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) connection and/or HDMI/HDCP
(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connection. I would recommend getting one
with a HDMI/HDCP connection. One other important consideration is the
resolution. Most widescreen LCDs are 1680x1050 pixels, but the more expensive
newer models are 1920x1200 pixels or 2560 x 1600. A high resolution will result in more
desktop space and allows super high resolution gaming.
I’d suggest the following:
