Router:
The next item on the list is hardware security, namely a router. There are
basically two types of routers; wired and wireless. I would suggest selecting a
new wireless router with the latest technologies. Most of today’s routers offer
802.11b/g speeds, but there is a new 802.11n standard. The new 802.11n routers
are called a draft 802.11n, which basically means the technology hasn't been
perfected or finalized yet. These 802.11n routers deliver approximately 14x
faster speeds and 6x farther range than 802.11g while staying backward
compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
PLEASE NOTE: Remember to configure the wireless router correctly to keep out
anyone trying to steal your signal, or worse. This means settings high grade
encryption and authentication and creating a Passphrase on the router.
I'd recommend any of the following:
Remember, the router will not give you 100% protection, but will keep some
intruders out. It's important to have a security software package. I would
recommend
Kaspersky Internet Security because it has file anti-virus, mail anti-virus,
web anti-virus, proactive defense, anti-spy, anti-hacker, and anti-spam built
into it.
