CPU:
Now it’s time to select a CPU. There are two obvious choices: AMD or Intel, and whether you want a single or dual core. For both I would recommend going dual core, especially for a gaming rig. For AMD select a CPU that’s 3800+ or higher, and for Intel select 2GHz or higher. L2 cache is something else to look out for. L2 cache is basically super fast memory on the CPU. So the more L2 cache a CPU has the better, because it usually translates in greater overall performance. Also, if you are interested in overclocking then be sure to do your research and find out what CPU will give you excellent performance at the best price. The performance difference between a quad core CPU and a dual core in gaming is negligible. Quad core CPUs do come in handy in business applications like Video Editing or excessive multitasking.
