Right off the bat, I somewhat expected the low profile 80mm fan to be kind of loud. That was just not the case. The fan was more than tolerable and if you have any kind of decent case, your side panels will eliminate the noise. Since the fan is attached to the cooler, it can only overhang either over the back, or over the bottom. This creates dead air on which ever side doesn’t have the overhang of the fan. I would have liked to see the fan be replaced with a 120mm fan or an 80mm fan that can be hovered above the video card so that I may provide airflow to each cooling plate on both sides. For testing we used our recently reviewed AMD x1950Pro video card and our Cooler Master Stacker case.

All in all, the installation of the Logisys cooler was a bit tedious and a bit messy with the thermal grease. The memory modules had really frustrating adhesive tape and two of them actually fell off! This was due to the fact that I was touching them too much to get the adhesive tape off. Lucky for us this happened before installation of the video card. This could have easily caused a short if the heatsink had landed on something that was carrying current. Another negative is that the entire cooling unit adds a lot of weight to the video card. This is apparent with the slouching of the video card when installed. Some of the weight could be removed with a simple fan design found in our recently reviewed CoolIt Systems PCI Cooling Booster.

With the negatives aside, this cooler actually performed fairly well. The Logisys VGA Cooler took temperatures down four degrees on the GPU from the stock cooling on it. That’s a 16% drop in temperature. The ambient temperature sensor on the card also dropped ten degrees; a 22% drop. Whether or not the additional loss of a second PCI slot and cumbersome installation is worth the drop in temperature… that is up to you. Over all the Logisys VGA Dual Heatpipe Cooler is a Great Value. Our thanks goes out to Geeks.com for their continued support of 3dGameMan.com and their supply of this review sample.
