Results and Conclusion:

As a power supply is not hard to install, the installation of the Logisys Acrylic power supply was a snap. Once installed, the unit’s two Blue LED fans spin and light up. As we are partial to blue, we had to snap out of it and keep taking pictures. These Blue LEDs do not cause the power leads to react. To do this, a UV cold cathode really did not affect the leads’ mesh either. To achieve the UV affect, I had to use an 18” UV Florescent fixture about 12” away from the unit.

Once installed into our recently reviewed Sunbeam Acrylic UFO case (replacing a Red LED PSU), our little acrylic setup was completed. The cube was complete and the combination of blue and green was a site to see. Almost all parts of the setup were either blue or green. Yum! We did however have a fun time trying to control all the power leads that were not being used. This created an interesting time handling two zip-ties and an extra set of hands is highly suggested.

With the low wattage of the power supply, we tested it with a more suitable setup consisting of an AMD 2600+, Gigabyte motherboard, OCS 512mb DDR PC-3200 CAS2, PNY nVidia TI-4800 AGP, Maxtor 120gb IDE 7,200RPM hard drive, MadDog IDE DVD/RW, and Sound Blaster 5.1. Again, this was done to test the power supply under assumed conditions. Variations in hardware will affect the unit’s results.

Logisys has created a wonderful answer to those looking to help the look of their acrylic setups. This power supply has great construction with eye catching neon Green mesh. Performance with medium level hardware shows strong but with a transition to updated hardware, the numbers will greatly be affected as the amperage just can’t keep up with today’s newest hardware. For those that are looking for added eye catching appear for their acrylic cube or for their mod product, this is a great product, but for those looking to run a newer machine with Crossfire or SLI, you will need to look elsewhere. The Logisys Acrylic power supply is a Great Value and is available from Geeks.com for less than $50 USD. Our thanks goes out to Geeks.com for their support of this review sample and their continued support of 3dGameMan.com!
