Well, by biz is starting up with a bang. Feeling POWERFUL. Hence, wallpaper change.
My desktop is a complete and utter mess. Wallpapers change every half hour and I have about 30 that swap around.
July update:

Mine is pretty clean :D
RAWR

I'd always wanted to have a clean desktop. I can just hit the Window key and access the most frequently used programs, but if it aren't there, I just search for it by typing the program I'm looking for, select a program that's in the search result, hit Enter, and I'm there. The next time I need to access a program, it's already in the most frequently used programs list.
I've made Start menu as my friend and made myself comfortable for me to easily live without icons in my desktop. I rarely click in the icons in the desktop for a very long time.
Oh, and yes, it's that clean from desktop icons... hehe ;)
Here's my sleek, but plain desktop, in XFCE. I'm running Xubuntu 11.04 with KXStudio installed.
If I hover my mouse to the left edge of the screen:
As you can see, mine is pretty much elegant and clutter-free. Access to my applications is via right-click, so there's no need for a "Start" menu or Ubuntu 11.04's classic "Applications" menu in the panel. If I click in the Firefox icon, I can see the list of running applications, which can also be done by middle-clicking in the desktop.
September, 2011 update:
