I really hope they re-consider. They are going to lose a lot of sales because of this issue. I'll be very disappointed if they don't re-consider. Let's just hope it turns out better
No pre-order from me now! :(
It means all servers will be ran, and controlled, by them :). Which doesn't mean a whole lot really... But, it will restrict people from running their own servers with customizations, etc.

? What does this mean for multiplayer content?
It means it will be more like Left 4 Dead and you can't pick a server or play on with guidmates or have custom servers or mods.
AND it will also stop the usage of "cracked servers" which are accessible with cracked games.

It means a whole hell of a lot. From what I've read the PC version will utilize listen servers similar to the Xbox 360. The person with the best connection in the game lobby will be elected host and everyone connects to him. Latency will be a huge issue and if the host leaves then the game is interrupted.
On top of this the community won't be able to make custom maps or any mods which will allow Activision/IW to nickel and dime us for new maps.
Say goodbye to 30+ player servers.
Pretty much kills it for the PC. And yeah, that's the best part is having 30+ players.
This was posted on 402's twitter earlier today as IW's official response to the PC community. He later deleted the tweet for whatever reason.
He also posted this on his blog to give "PC players a better idea as to exactly why IWNET is an improvement." but nothing in that post couldn't be accomplished with dedicated servers.
im sure someone will find a way to make their own private server with the game just like sa-mp
someone already estimated that they are going to loose over 3 million dollars from this with all the cancelled pre-orders and people not wanting the game
Versus losing at least double that amount due to piracy and people playing on cracked servers?
Guys, it's over, PC gaming is dead.
One game has something you disagree with and therefore PC gaming is dead?
Didn't you get the memo? PC gaming was supposed to be dead years ago. :Yea right :negative

I don't know where they get the idea that PC gaming is dead. From what I've seen there are a lot of people that still love to play games on computers. Lets face the facts here right. PC's are made for chatting and have nice mouses for directing. Counter in things like surfing the web, 3d games, music and that's just the start. No Laptop is fast enough to make the Desktop go away. No gaming console is open enough to allow freedom to do everything a Desktop can. Game consoles are just that, they are a home video arcade that goes back to the days of the Atari. The Commodore was the closest thing to a computer and gaming machine, but you still see PC's today, so what wrong with the numbers here? The fact is the PC is so universal you can't get rid of it. Because Internet speeds are much faster today it's easy for people to download and share programs and not pay for them. That alone might hurt profit margins on the PC, but the same happens for the consoles that get mod chips or hacks. Piracy is a problem for them for sure. From my experience when a game does not have to connect to a service account online you can pretty much guarantee it will get cracked and shared.... Anyway I'm rambling. :)
The whole big reason to get the PC version instead of console systems is because you can customize it. Yet, they did the next worst thing and add the match making. The reason match making makes it worst is because you can't choose. One reason to get the PC version is because we want to choose what we want, and how we want it. If they really choose that match making implanted into the PC, it's considered a console to me now. They really messed up big.

What good does stopping cracked servers do? I would rather play with these servers than playing with servers with hackers.:grumble

Unfortunately, taking away choices from the consumer seems to be a popular thing these days in business. It seems to me that this is also an experiment to see if certain things applied to the consoles can be brought over to the PC (i.e. no modding, paid DLC, less control over online gaming, and higher PC game pricing). Fortunately, the PC community doesn't want any of it. Otherwise we'd have some pretty significant precedents being set because of this.
iwent is getting worse :'(

I'm sick of this game. Waiting for something better.
DICE and BF: BC2 up next in our pre-orders lists :D
I would play much more MW2 if it ran on dedicated servers. I am so sick of this matchmaking system, had to pre-order BF2. Cant wait for release date.
