Hi Guys,
I have currently ASUS X58D Premium mobo, OCZ vertex II 128 GB SSD as a boot drive, Velociraptor 300gb + WD 1 TB Cavier green.
I want to keep my ssd as boot drive as is but i would like to have my velociraptor + WD in Raid 0 for performance.
Is it a good idea, any suggestions?
1. What do i need to have Raid 0 setup, harward, cables?
2. Would i have to reformat my ssd? which is not going to be in raid.
Would greatly appreciate any help and thanks in advance.
Peace
its actually a bad idea. because you will lose a lot of capacet from your hard drives.
you would get X*speed of the slowest hdd(1tb probably)
and X*smallest capacity.
X= the amount of drives in the raid setup.
so you will lose about 700Gb capacity and the speed of the velociraptor.
the best raid configuration is whit 2 identical drives so 2 drives whit the same speed, size and manufacturer
The SSD for the OS boot drive is fine, but configuring two different HDDs in RAID0 may cause some instability issues, best to stick to identical drives when configuring any level of RAID.
hmm makes sense. Thank you Razear and Massau for you help.
Ill buy a second WD cavier and then put them in raid.
Cheers
Peace
