is there such thing as a 1GB RAM, 900 MHz 5970? and if yes, is it good?
No, and why would you want one? 2GB is going to give you much more performance, especially with the 2 gpu's.
i am almost certain there's no 1gb version. the 5970 is a dual card, each of the 2 gpu's has 1gb of memory
Exactly
the HD5970 is like 2xHD5850s, each of the has 1gb of GDDR.
it is a dual GPU in the same unit.
2gigs are gonna give you a hole lotta preformance then 1gig. and i can't think of a reson of making a 1gig version, or a reson to want a one gig version (only if you are running on 2 gigs of RAM and in that case the GPU would anyways get bottelnecked and you would need an upgrade)
To put this more clear. If it was 1gb would be 512mb usable because each gpu would have 512mb.
So a 2gb 5970 is = 1gb
Just like if you ad a extra video card in sli/crossfire you will have more gpu power but no advantage of extra ram.
If there is ever a application or game that requires a gpu with 2gb of ram it would not work on a 5970. If you had a single gpu with 2gb of ram it would run. Just for example.
correct... :D
Stupid question. Interesting replies.
