ATX12V / EPS12V power connectors on motherboard

I have a question regarding the power connectors on a motherboard.

If my motherboard has a 4-pin ATX12V power connector and also an 8-pin EPS12V connector, can I use both at the same time, or is it one or the other? My power supply appears to be able to do both.

My guess would be you can, and it would provide more stable power, but I would like to know for sure.

I do not want to fry any of my equipment by plugging my power supply into both ;P

Yes, it would be a good idea to plug in both, especially if you are overclocking.
