Hi, i have been building in the UK for some time now. I have become pretty good and do a lot of MODS, but how do i take the next step to doing client builds? i would love to be able to see new hardware and parts and get paid to build, which i enjoy. Is there anything i need to do or that could help me?
Well the best thing to do is to develop a very good website with a range of products+get some advertising going. Also you will need to get official via the U.K gov. It takes a lot of capital+motivation to really get something going so don't unless you are atleast 90% sure you got what it takes.
First, work towards an A+ Certification and apply to become a PC technician at a computer store's service centre and then continue from there.
Hmmm. this osunds like alot of hassle, i am only 15 so i may just stick to building PCs for people and school at get £10
15???
you're going to have to wait a few more years for that then...
How do you get certified? Because I've been thinking about doing this myself. Couldn't you just have your own website with some advertising? Or if you really wanted, I guess you could put together builds and sell them on ebay or amazon.
you have to have money.... LOTS of it.
cheapest prices for CPU's lets just say are when you buy in quantities of 1000. If you dont, you wont make any money cause your prices will be too high for sure.
I had a long story typed out but realized I lost track of what you want. :P
Having a A+ Certification is a nice start because it gives you badge points. I've already been looking into this type of business and it's a hard one to make money in it. With all these retail stores around you can't really make a whole lot of money just selling parts or upgrades or repairs. Need to find a niche market.
With your A+ Certification you can drive and make house calls and do in house repairs. You can also sell hardware on the spot for the repairs or offer upgrade parts. This will all depend on how good of a sales person you are and the skills that you have as a tech.
Not alot of people are going to drive to a small shop some place to buy a highend computer. Like my work only buys Dells, even when I offer to build better for cheaper..sad.
Now what you can do here is pay to have a nice website. Get your paper work done for the business permits. Buy into the dealer prices for windows and Intel and AMD ect.. You'll need to buy alot of stuff for cheap to turn a profit. Then sell only what you think people will like.
Custom made computers are a good way to keep inventory low while turning a higher profit. Of course all of this takes a crap ton of money to start. I personally know a bunch of people that have A+ Certs and have tried to sell and repair. In the end they just could never make enough money and moved on to other jobs.
I do make nice computer for friends and family, but I find that after a while, sometimes it bites you in the ass when you are the one trying to make it work. Kind of like Zach and this 3GM wedsite..lol
Rodney, has a niche market with Video Hardware Reviews. But it's not like anyone can just jump into this business over night and turn out a profit. Got to put in the sweat and tears. Even now Rodney and his team of evil doers are struggling to keep everything floating.
So think of something that no one else is doing and go for it!
