Hi guys. Im looking to invest in a high quality speaker system for my PC system and xbox. I was browsing Newegg and found the Logitech z5500 which are digital 5.1 and i can plug my optical cable for my xbox.. not quite the same with x540s... the only setback with me is the price.. I keep trying to tell myself theyre worth the price but at the same time i keep thinking there is a better option. Any recommendations or opinions? Thanks

Flossy, it really depends on your room. The z5500's are the defacto standard of great speakers under $400. But if you are in a small bed room or small apartment living room etc, the x540's will be just fine. They are a noticable level more 'cheaply' made and the drivers just simply don't match the z5500's, but in the right setting, they sound just great. Remember to EQ and adjust your PC's audio settings to optimize your experience.

My typical recommendations go Klipsch 5.1 ($600), Logitech z5500's and then the x540's...

I have the z5500 and all I can say is they are amazing! Games, music, and even movies with Dolby surround just sound fantastic over optical.
