so i'm gonna buy some memory for my ASUS Maximus III Formula, P55 express (running core i5-750) and i need some help :O
I'm looking for about 6 gb of ram ( or mayb 4 gb ? but that's not as much :D ) anyways...
i found this one 6 gb kit to a good price, but the discription said '' for core i7 '' ? can i use that memory then ?
A 6 gig set is meant for a cpu that supports triple channel ram. You only need 4 gigs.
Yeah, P55 boards support dual channel DDR3. This means you'll need 4GB to utilize dual channel.
so I cant have more than 4 gb of memory ?
does the dual-channel memory architecture limit the use of motherboard memory banks to two ?
no you can have up to 4 banks up to X GB of ram.. you can know how much ram you can install looking in the manual or in the MB page on asus' website
i recommend corsair dominator or dominator GT
You can indeed use 4 x 2 gb sticks for 8gb total but all of the 6gb KITS are meant for i7 MB's.
Honestly 4gb is probably enough
Oh and unless corsair is at a good price then avoid it-I find it is ALWAYS overpriced here in the states
I'm probably going for Corsair Dominator DHX+ DDR3 1600MHz 4GB Kit w/2x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL7-8-7-20, for Core i3/i5/i7, 1.65V, with Connector :D
