Hey everyone, I am currently looking to upgrade the RAM in my system, but i am not 100% sure what RAM I need for it to be compatible, here is my PC specs...
Mainboard : FUJITSU SIEMENS PTM900
Chipset : VIA P4M900/CN896/VN896/PT890
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 641 @ 3200MHz
Physical Memory : 512MB (1 x 512 DDR2-SDRAM )
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
Here is my RAM Specs in more detail using PC Wizard 2012
Manufacturer : Samsung
Part Number : M3 78T6553CZ3-CD5
Serial Number : F11B8133
Type : DDR2-SDRAM PC2-4300 (266MHz) - [DDR2-533]
Format : Regular UDIMM (133.35 x 3)
Memory Controller Information :
Memory Controller : Standard, EDO
Number of connectors : 2
Max. Module Size : 2048MB
Max. Memory Size : 4096MB
My problem is that this so called PC2-4300 RAM is not very easy to find, so I have no idea what I really should be looking for, or how much RAM my PC can have all together, PC Wizard 2012 says 4GB but since Crucial Memory Scanner gave me false info I am not 100% sure what I really need...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I looked up the part number and its 512MB PC4200 533 MHz DDR2, pc wizard was kinda off , the max memory it can support is 2 GB and you can put upto PC5400 DDR2 667MHz.
Also I found the motherboard manual, I suggest saving this somewhere if you happen to run into anymore issues http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/Boards/Motherboards/FIC/Man_PTM900_V1.0_english.pdf
PC-6400 DDR2 800MHz RAM can work on the speeds of PC-4200 & PC-5400. It is compatible.
Why it's not listed as compatible? It wasn't out when your MBO was made, at that time the fastest ddr2 was 667 MHz.
If your MBO has 2 DIMM slots for memory, you can install up to two 2GB modules.
Correct, faster memory can downclock, so there are no worries if you buy faster memory speeds.
As far as total available, the BIOS (at initial revision) only addresses 2Gb total, 1Gb per slot. You MAY be able to get 4Gb total if the BIOS has been updated, but don't expect this revision to be likely as the CPU type is only 32-bit. Fujitsu has no additional documentation (past release) on the board.
Thanks for the info guys, greatly helped and now brought some new RAM.
