Ok I have a really tough question.I bought a 64gb ssd for windows 7 64 bit home premium and have a 750gb hard drive. I was wondering though, that since windows 7 is on the ssd, all my programs will choose to install there. Now, i want some programs to install on it such as my antivirus programs and other resource heavy apps, but the majority of programs will go onto my hard drive. I solved the problem with saving big files like videos by having the libraries show files from folders that i created on the hard drive and had programs save files to folders i created on the hard drive. All these folders are under one big folder called libraries. I still need to find a way for programs to choose by default to install in a folder i created on the hard drive. I researched it on the internet involving editing parts of the registry but it only worked for very few programs. I need to find a way for it to work for most programs. if nobody can answer i would really appreciate it. but if not it would be awesome Rodney if you could help me with this one.
Thanks,
Brett
In regedit change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramsFilesDir to a folder on your other drive.
Never dorn on me to do this but good solution nilzxx, I will try it eventually on a test environment.
Thanks.
that's what I did, but it only worked for very few programs and it messed up some programs on my C: Drive. Thank you Cvasquez for your help. Please let me know when you start your test environment. Would such a test environment work on a virtual PC?
