Can it be done? And if so, how well would it work compaird to regular gaming rigs?

Yes, of course it would work. The Skulltrails accept two physical CPUs but for gaming it's completely overkill and unnecessary. For gaming preformance you'd be much better off putting your money towards the graphic card setup.
