Im leaving on a trip from Florida to paris soon.. so im trying to convert some movies and shows i have in Sony vegas to go on my ipod touch. A long air flight without movies would make me go INSANE!
anyways im trying to work with MKV and avi files.. I have vegas 10 pro. windows 7 (32-bit) with AVI it shows no audio..
iv searched google left and right and cannot find a fix or anything. its driving me insane since im leaving in 3 days!
can anyone link me to some video tutorial or step by step way to install some kind of codec or addon to allow me to do this?
witout using crappy software thats not user friendly ECT.
any help would be GREAT!
Converting with Vegas is asking for trouble. It is designed as a video editor, not a transcoder. Download Handbrake and use it. Works VERY VERY well for free software, and has iPod filters embedded.

Yes, BTW I do a lot of development on Vegas 10 Pro, but I have a glut of freeware that I use for fine tuning vids depending on where they need to go.
Thank you so so so very much Eire for the response! ill try it now! :D
Working out for you? Forgot to mention that double rendering will get you nothing for iPods. The screens just aren't high enough resolution to bother worrying about JPEG compression distortion as they are fairly minor.
sorry i never replied! i been busy lol. the program you advised me to get works like a blessing !!! after messing with its settings i found a perfect setting for my converted ipod videos.. i give it a 15FPS with a kinda low quality rate.. looks like crap when played on a PC screen but good on the ipod.
i agree about the ress. thank you so so much! im also using this on all the videos on my external to convert to a universal codec! :D
converting HD (720P) takes HOURS!! 0_0 I NEED A CORE I7 SO BADLY LOL
once again thank you SO SO SO MUCH!
EDIT* - what do you mean by double rendering?
Sorry for the delay, my power supply died the 16th. Just finally got the new one today.
Double rendering also is referred to as 2-pass Encoding. You will see it on your "Video" tab. All it does is go back and tweak the encoding to remove as much JPEG distortion as possible.
Sony Vegas is what I use all the time and love it, but you certainly can't dump any format into it. I've had to covert many video to compatible formats to get Vegas to recognize it. BTW: Vegas 11 is released.
