Road rage horror: Ax, hammer

A wild-eyed Cadillac driver attacked two other motorists with a hatchet and a hammer during a bizarre road-rage incident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway yesterday.
The mayhem unfolded after the enraged man intentionally cut off other cars on the highway near Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn Heights about 2:30 p.m., police and witnesses said.

The silver Cadillac swerved in front of a sport-utility vehicle and stopped, causing the SUV to come to a sudden halt. A small truck then bumped into the stopped SUV, and seconds later a red pickup truck collided with the small truck, witnesses said.

Everyone escaped injury until the driver of the Cadillac jumped out of the car, opened his trunk and grabbed the hatchet and hammer, cops said.

The armed man opened the door of the first car behind him and slashed the arm of the stunned driver, cops said.

"They were all backing off, saying, 'Hey! Hey! Hey!' " said witness Bill Covert, 32, a Con Ed worker who dialed 911. "Then he drops the ax . . . gets a framer's hammer . . . [and] hits another guy with it on the head."

Other drivers grabbed the hammer and hatchet, but the enraged attacker wasn't through, witnesses said.

He got back in his car and tried to run over the motorists, along with two children who were passengers in one of the cars, before fleeing westbound on the highway, Covert said. "It was sick," Covert said. "It's horrible what this guy did. There was maybe minor rear-end damage to [his] car."

The two injured motorists - brothers from Queens who were following each other on the highway - were taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, police said.

That's sad... what is the road rage coming to? Although... maybe the road rage isn't at fault... road rage is one thing... psycho is another.

A funny thing happened to me once regarding road rage. Well, there is always this kind of thing happening in large cities but this one sticks out.

About 10 years ago, Toronto, Ontario, Canada...
I was in the left lane (4 lanes, 2 each way) and there were vehicles stopped in the right lane. Looking in my rear view mirror I spotted this vehicle trying to pass me on the right, trying to force his way thru the lane. Remember, there are vehicles parked in the right lane so passing is not possible, so he essentially created his own lane. After a few minutes of traveling we passed all the vehicles that were parked in the right lane, and now he can easily pass. I kept an eye on this exceptionally aggressive driver, as he quickly accelerated…but instead of just passing me, he got up close and spit on my left my passenger window. Amused, I just about laughed my head. He didn’t stick around after that and speeded off (spit and run). He must have been having a bad day or life or something.

Oh, another...

I remember this incident where some lady smacked into the rear of my vehicle... Getting out inspecting the damage, I was pleasantly surprised it was very minor. The lady was driving a real fancy car, and I proceeded to say, "You just rear-ended me", to which she replied, "No I didn't" and turned out of the lane and drove on. That answer didn't surprise me on bit and since the damage was very minor I simple couldn't be bothered getting into a legal battle over it.

I suspect many of you can report some of your very own road rage incidences.

Reminds me of when I still had my learners. I was going through a parking lot when I had to stop suddinly because I saw a truck backing out of a spot. Well I brake, then the guy sees me stopped and does the same. Now keep in mind that he had 1-2 car lengths to continue backing out with. He leaned his head out the window and just started unloading on me - I've never heard somoene mush together that many sware words into what sounded like insults.

Of course the entire time I'm just sitting there wondering why he's so mad, I left him more than enough room to back out and leave... So once he runs out of breath he continues on. He backs up more, though very slowly, and nearly stalling the truck (ugh, new standard drivers), then nearly stalls once again as he leaves.

It's incredible when I think back about it.

Wow. What made him so mad? Did starbucks run out of his favorite coffee or something?

And inside the home next to the incident, a kid sat with his joypad and did some flipping in the Vice City.
