It's also kind of acquired a negative image because of that... well, where i grew up it meant that you were not the sharpest crayon in the crayola box. if you were to do something dumb that you knew you should not have done, you'd say "i'm special" or "i know, i should be riding on the short bus". not that i'm putting special needs kids down. it's more that i'm putting myself down b/c i'm a mentally functional adult without the issues that they have to suffer like mental ******ation and such, and i've acted below my capacity for common sense.
