The Canon S50... here (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_s50.asp?dontcount=1)
or the Sony DSC P10...here (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sony/sony_dscp10.asp) ?
hmm...
Specifacations wise, the Cannon has the better set of features,
and a higher actual pixel count, 5.24.
They both have the same zoom, I wouldn't bother with
Digital Zoom, its no where near as good as an optical zoom.
The Cannon also seems to have better 'user control' as I like to call it.
As in, you can control the camera's features much better.
It has better shutter control than the Sony, and has better
white balance than the Sony.
The only thing that I can see that the Sony is better at,
is it has a higher maximum shutter speed than the Cannon.
Cannon : 1/1500 sec
Sony : 1/2000 sec
So unless you are going to be doing lots of night time /
high speed photography, then this shouldn't really be an issue
for you.
Then again, if you are going to be doing a lot of night time /
high speed photography, the best camera to use, IMHO is the
Pentax MZ50 (Non Digital), and some really good film.
Hope this was of some help to you :)

When I get the camera (which ever one i decide to in the end) I'm definetly taking it underwater as I recently got my PADI Underwater Photographer certification! :D
How about the quality of the photos? Does Canon or Sony make better digicams?

I'm PADI Qualified as well, Scuba diving is :KICKASS :KICKASS
But anyway, its not about who makes a better digicam (in my eyes, Sony), its about who takes a better picture.
This is where your best off going to the shop / shops that has one or both digicams in, and taking a picture of something with a lot of different colours, with each digicam and taking home the results to analyse for yourself.
Which ever one you think has better picture detail, better colour definition, better contrast, etc go with that one.
Remember tho, its your opinion that counts, not someone elses, its you who is going to own the camera, not someone else.
Sometimes, buying something just for the specifactions can dissapoint. Well, in camera's anyway :)

PADI Master Scuba Diver here :happywave
I think i'll get the Sony. If they are similar, the Sony does win out a slight bit in looks. ;)

I only got a standard PADI Diver qualifaction.
You can't go wrong with Sony.
My dad got a Sony digital video camera, which also has a digicam built into it.
For a 1.3MegaPixel camera, it takes almost Lifelike images at 1360x1290, so it would be interesting to see what a 5.x MP camera can do.
Unless you are a photography expert, your not going to see much difference between the two.
Then again, if you were an expert in photography, you wouldn't be looking at those two cameras.
More like the heavy duty - hardcore - top of the line digital cameras that cost LOADS! :)

I don't think theres a housing for it though. Can't take it underwater :(
If you paid $8,000 for a camera, would you really want to risk taking it anywhere near water tho?
For $8,000 I would say that the camera would become the object of many photo's, but not atually used for many photo's :)
Seriously tho, I think you can get housing for it, but you might have to hunt around for it.
Also, there are generic housings, designed for the older 'analogue' cameras.
I'd imagine one of those would fit.
