meh, I was in Edinburgh a couple years ago...I was in the VYSO, we did a tour of Scotland. We played mostly in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, but we also played in Edinburgh. I hear the city is really beautiful, but I wouldn't know because the stupid tour organizers got the worst map they could find and me and my group ended up spending most of the time walking through suburbia...blech!
That said, when I do do my big planned trip to roam around Europe in a year or two....would you give me a tour if I came a calling?

In Europe or Vancouver? In Vancouver there are plenty of open old un-used lots that people use for 4-wheeling....there is one right beside my local freeway interchange....the only problem is that the soil was from a toxic-waste cleanup to make room for Expo 86...but the 4-wheelers don't know that all that dust they kick up is loaded with PCBs and Oil and Kreosode and other various carcinagins...they just wanna have fun!

Of course, it's kind of sad that I work all day in a computer store, and the first place I can think of when somebody asks where I'd rather be is a computer show... :)
That's kind of dorky, isn't it...
So if I had to choose somewhere that isn't computer related, I'd choose Scotland. I've wanted to go there since I saw the first Highlander movie. Maybe some day...:)

I've never been to Endinburgh or Scotland for that matter. My brother was stationed in the US Navy there in Scotland.

I don't know if she saw that or not.
But I'm responding now. The reason I haven't been on is because frankly, I'm burned out. I work with computers all day long. Then there's nothing to do when I get home at night except go on my computer there. I haven't had a day off in so long except for sick days that I can't even remember when the last one was, and I'm not about to get another one anytime soon. Plus my carpal tunnel is so bad now that I can't even sleep through the night any more because I have to move my arms around to wake them up after the blood flow is cut off and they go to sleep. It's no fun to wake up at 3AM and have to do that because your fingers are numb.
I'm just at that point where I can't take it any more. All I do all day is work on computers. "Reformat my hard drive." "Install my video card." "Fix my virus problem because I'm too damn cheap to spend the money on a good virus scanner." It was fun when it was a hobby. But now I can't get away from it, and I just can't take it. I'm at the point where I'm ready to sell my computer off and get on with my life.
Plus there are things going on in my house that suck too... Never have any money, and we're not exactly the happiest pad on the block. And then you add what's going on with my daughter, and it gets to be too much sometimes. There are really days I wish I was single again and just working 9-5 at an office somewhere, where the most important thing I had to worry about on a computer was whether IT was around when it crashed.
And I'm also tired of the constant upgrading cycle. I'm tired of having to upgrade every 6 months to get the latest and greatest or look like a loser because I don't have the most kickass parts. Not that there's anything wrong with people who do that - I just can't. I'm sick of getting a P4 2.4 and an 845PE board and then 3 or 4 months later hearing everybody rave about the new stuff. And wanting that. And then getting it, and not seeing any more performance. Or maybe getting the latest video card, and then a couple of months later, reading about the brand new game that's coming out that my shiny new silicon won't even run.
I'm just tired of it. I'm seriously thinking about finding a new job and just getting off the computer for a while. I just want things to be like they were in the old days... When my life was good and the biggest problems I had were what book should I read next, and should I spend the money on this or that ,and what should I have for supper, and what's on TV. Not, am I going to spend another day fighting with my wife, and wondering where I'm going to get the money to pay the bills, and trying to find one bright spot in my job, and will my arms ever stop hurting...
So that's why I'm not around so much. I just can't do the techie thing any more. I've done this for so long I'm just burnt out. I literally dread turning on my computer. And 6 months ago I was so proud of it.
I'm not trying to rip into anybody, or point any fingers, or anything. Just wanted to state my peace and get out. Agree or disagree with what I've said, report me, ban me - it just doesn't matter as much any more. It's just not where my heart is any more.
SO that's all I have to say.

I know how you feel waz. Do like Artcwokf said, and take some time off, i went for like a week without even hooking my computer up. There are times when all I wanna do is rest or spend time with my kids or with my wife. So I do understand.
Just turn the computer off, drink a beer, (or soda, fruit juice, or whatever) and don't even think about computers.
Do what you wanna do, even if it is just sitting in the lazy boy in a bathrobe watching the price is right on a video tape.
Whenever you wanna come back, hey we will all be right here to welcome ya back.
