What is the best way to go about re-sizing jpeg files? I'm shooting at 1600x1200 for the best resolution. When I reduce them to, say, 800x600, they really look like crap. Should I be adjusting the ppi along with the size?

I have a similar problem.
I use Adobe Photoshop 7, and resize them in there.
Just change the resolution to what you want, and leave the rest as it is and off it goes.
It does a remarkably good job.

Then, I save them using the maximum quality setting.
et Voila, a 1.5MB jpg becomes a 200k jpg

I have to back MGE

Photoshop does a wonderful job of resizing pix. I've been using it for years now and love it.

I really don't think there is another photo imaging software that can compare to it.

The best software i think, and very easy to use is Arcsofts PhotoStudio 2000. Here is a screenshot. The pic below has been resized from 1024*768 TO 800*600.

I can't afford Photoshop. I use Print Shop Pro, IrfanView, PhotoImpression, Satori, and PicturePublisher. I know how to go from one size to another. My question was if I need to adjust the resolution (DPI) also, to get a better quality result? Or would it be better to convert to another format before re-sizing?

You might then try "The GIMP" it's what I use, it's free, and damn close to photoshop in editing abilities...

Wonder how that works really. You have a burnt copy but you got rid of ur original because it broke or something. Does that mean you can't use your backup since you no longer have the original?

If you look hard enough, Adobe probably give out leftover copies of previous verison of photoshop somewhere.

That's about what I thought...

I've tried Gimp before. I wasn't impressed and went back to PSP. Does it, or any of them, allow you to apply a variable amount of sharpening to a pic? In a lot of cases, the program's idea of a little is a little too much.

I think you can, because you own the User Licesnse Agreement (ULA). However, if you sell it, transfer it, or return it to the store you are also giving up the ULA.

Of course the GIMP offers variable sharpening....here's the pic I posted in the previous thread with a 60 sharpen or soemthing... (Stupid forum rules won't let me post a picture that is 600x800...bleh)
