Whoa...

Nothing like that happens over here... most? a few trees knocked down wtc...

wtc ?

Mother nature i guess shows who is boss at times. It lets you know you should never play with mother nature which is always the case anyway.

I wouldn't dare play with mother nature...

JCYC5 i guess we now know exactly why a F5 is called the finger of god.

The most I have seen is a strong gale over here.

I don't think I could live anywhere where something like that could just happen.

Well, I suppose it would be the quickest time anyone packed up their computer anyway :p

But still, just goes to show, we are meerly over sized ants that can be thrown about at will, if mother nature wants.

Wow.

I'm still in shock over the railway car. For a moment I thought the front of it looked like a mangled boat !

They are showing pictures of Tornado and storms that ripped thru Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee today!!

Oh man what a sight that would be. Thunder and lightning is great, but I wouldn't want to be in the path of a tornado large enough to sweep life away !!

(maybe just a quick peek at one though...amazing weather!!)

Perhaps a quick peek of one, from the window of a speeding car?
Say, a Nissan Skyline for example, "Touching Cloth" at 170MPH in the oppoiste direction of said tornado.

You can do that....

Just remember....

hehe

Tornado's can change direction in the blink of an eye.

Although, most tornado's do not exceed 60 mph....that would be in your favor.

You say most tornado's can't travel faster than 60MPH, well I'm the exception to the rule.

No matter what, something weird always happens to me, something that I'm never expecting, and no one else is expecting either.

So, chances are, I would find the worlds first tornado that travels at 170MPH +
:D

ooo YEAH! an F1!!!!!
Only my favourite car in the entire world! :)

I can see myself wrapped round the nearest lamp-post in that! :lmao

Still, what a way to go, at least I would have a smile on my face! :D

The thing with the F1's is: You even put too much pressure on the accelerator, and a pair of Gonads appear in the rear window. :lmao
AWESOME acceleration on those Beasts! :D

Orangepeel i hate lightning. Not watching it inside though but going outside in it if i have to i hate it. Why, well because a lot of people every year get struke by lightning and die. Its not that hard actually. Heck i freak out every time i just go outside the door and i start to see lightning real close to me. I don't like it at all. I know you do not play with mother nature either. Though i love to watch lightning! Once i saw purple lightning i believe it was! It was so cool to look at inside a car but not outside hehe!

Orangepeel just imagine how bad it would feel just to be hit by lightning. Its not a good feeling at all with all of those volts. My friend once got stuck by lightning a little. He said it gave him a headache afterwards. I would be no one near in a pool, on a football field, baseball field, etc when lightning is even 3 miles away. You have to remember you can get stuck by lightning even when the thunderstorm is not real close at all. Which is pretty scary in my opinion. Heck it could be sunny.

You are a bit mistaken there.
The way lightning strikes objects is like so:
During a lightning storm / thunder storm the air becomes highly charged with ions.

Whats known as 'streamers', which are a trail of electrons, start eminating from objects.
This can be any object, telegraph poles, tree's, houses, etc.

At the same time, streamers start making their way down from the sky.
When two streamers connect, a circuit is formed, and the lightning flows down these streamers to earth out on something.
Normally a tree, or something.

If you look at some really high quality lighning pics taken with a really really good camera, you can sometimes see these streamers, but only the ones that didn't connect.
They look like pieces of string which glow.

When you see lightning that is just in the sky, then that is meerly lightning traveling from + to - between two clouds.

When you understand the nature of something, it becomes a lot less scary.

And thus, MGE is going to demonstrate how safe lightning is by flying a kite w/ a key tied to it while driving a McLaren F1 and running from a F5 Tornado.

Is that a dare???? :)

You supply the F1, the kite and the key, and I'll do it!

Can someone make sure they have the paramedics standing by, but I think they might need a pair of oven gloves tho :D

Let's see...

on my salary + cost of F1 + average lifespan = Not going to happen. :p

Ah well.
Perhaps you should start a 3GM collection fund, all proceeds go towards my 'experiment' with an F1, kite, key, and a few thousand volts :D

How about a 240v dryer outlet + a bucket of water + some jumper cables.

I'll bring the digital video camera. :lmao

And what experiment would that be?
Testing the resistance of human flesh when submerged in water? :D

I've already been hit by 240v, it was on one of my more "special days", when I'm not really very smart, and I decided to fix an alarm clock I had.
Silly me, switched off the wrong plug.

So there I was, messing about with the innards of said mains powered (240V 3A) clock, with a metal screw driver.
Next thing I know, BANG! :shocking :shocking :shocking :shocking
240v 3a go shooting thru me.
Thank god for the circuit breaker on the ring-main for my room!
I couldn't let go, so it probably lasted for about 10 seconds.
But it was 10 seconds of pain.

Tell you what tho, electricity does wonders for hair styling, provided you want spikey hair :D :lmao

Whoa...

That increased your chance of getting struck by lightning...

Don't worry, the experiment would work now :D

Most of our outlets are 110v.

However, the dryers (unless natural gas or propane) are 240v @ 30 amps. :devil

All the outlets in the UK supply 240v to a maximum of 13Amps.

However, there is a seperate ring-main ususally dedicated to kitchen applainces.
Like our dual fuel cooker.
Gas for the 5 ring burners, 1 electric grill, 1 electric oven, and 1 electric fan assited oven, and a hot plate.
So that thing draws anything upto 50Amps.

The rest of the stuff, like the washing machine, tumble dryer, boiler, etc all run off 13Amps.
(Boiler is also Duel Fuel)

yup. Natural Gas (http://www.naturalgas.org/)

You have natural gas stoves, water heaters, heaters, and clothes dryers.

However most of the newer homes are all going electric. Not very good for your electric bill esp. when almost everyone in Texas has air conditioning going 9 months out of the year. :Holy Crap

When you mentioned natural gas at first I thought you meant the natural gas that is released by humans.

JCYC5 if you lived you would be very dizzy i bet. Babies and people have lived after being lifted by a tornado before. Pretty amazing if you ask me. They were lucky they didn't get hit really hard with a piece flying in the air and cut their head off or something.
