Some of you have reported to me via the forum Private Message system that you are not receiving any email notification. RealGN.com is currently experiencing a few mail issues.

Should be back soon though :thumb

Seems like that bug is moving around their systems... First the VRs were working slow for a while, then the forums went down, and now the mail...

Sounds like a virus or something...

Just like to point out that their servers keep crashiing IE for me. I just spent all day Friday reloading everything, and it was still doing it yesterday. It only happens on this site - here, but worse on the news page. I don't think it's anything malicious, just sloppy programming. They might want to look at those ads that are being posted. It's really getting annoying, and might be related to why their server keeps crashing.

Hey this is one of the RealGN admins and I was just wondering if you could tell me your system specs and the exact conditions during which IE will crash on this site.

Also if anyone else is having this problem, please do post a detailed post about your problem and then we can take a look at things. Just as a note though, blame all sloppy coding on Rodney, actually you know what, I think it would just be easier to blame all our server problems on Rodney ;-)

Just so everyone knows you can turn of email notification for your account in the user control panel and if enough people dont want it you should ask Rodney to turn it off forum-wide.

Just trying to help get the problem fixed.

The crash doesn't happen as soon as I hit a page, but after a delay. That's why I'm thinking it's those ads that pop in at the bottom. They come from a different server, right? A lot of times the pages don't completely load due to waiting on the ad server to send the ad. It's the only thing on the page that takes that long. IE doesn't hang. It crashes and tries to contact Microsoft.

My system, (don't snicker)...

AMD K6 233Mhz
PC Chips M575 motherboard
192MB PC66
3Com NIC
Motorola Surfboard 4200 Modem
Win 98SE, now with the latest patches installed, Scheduler disabled
Internet Explorer 6.0, SP1 installed.
Intellimouse 4.12
AVG 6.0
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware 6.0
Analog POW!!!
ZoneAlarm 3.1.291

Glad to have you in here working to fix the problem, Corp! It is much appreciated! :thumb

Ok a few questions...

1. Do you only crash in the forums? If not, then how long does it take before it crashes on other parts of the site?

2. Once again, has anyone else had this problem? If it had to do with our ad code we would be getting a lot of complaints about crashing, so I am inclined to think it isnt that (never can be sure though).

3. Could you try using another browser and see if it helps the problem? Possibly Mozilla? I use that browser exclusively and I really love it, you may want to try it out. If you wanna stick with IE, maybe try upgrading to a new version of it if you dont have the latest version.

Hope this helps...

We should all get back to our roots. All you old guys hop back on a 386 while this newb jumps back onto his 800MHz rig.

It'll be spiritual :thumb

Hope this helps... I'll try Mozilla. I have to run Netscape 4.79 to go one the news page. I am running the latest version of IE, with the latest patches for it. The time it takes varies. Not immediately, but it usually occurs if I try to move the cursor before the page fully loads. It will do it too, sometiimes, without me doing anything.

As I said above, I'm not assigning blame for anything. It might be some screwy interaction on my computer, or some program running on background that I can't find and get rid of. That's why I reloaded all my software. The thing is that it only happens here on the 3GM pages. I'll try the Mozilla and see.

You and my father. He keeps wishing he could still use DOS. WinXP completely baffles him.

The first computer I used was, I think, a Sperry-Rand. They wouldn't let me anywhere near the insides of it. I did hack into it and print out the answer file for the biology final, though. Ahhhh...mainframes and dumb terminals... May we NEVER go back! (Although,,,that is the model for the internet, isn't it?)
