"LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A US truck driver who worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company has been sacked after being spotted glugging down a soft drink made by the rival Pepsi company, union officials said.

Rick Bronson, who worked for the world's biggest soft drink firm for 12 years, was fired after someone reported him for supporting the enemy, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said.

"Coke is really grasping at straws on this one," said Jim Santangelo, principal officer of Teamsters' branch of which Bronson is a member in El Monte, east of the California hub of Los Angeles. They accused him of taking the Pepsi Challenge and Pepsi winning. Something is in his contract about denigrating Coke products. He's actually one of the Teamster organizers and has been trying to unionize Coke's distributers and suppliers for a while. Funny, but they didn't like that for some reason...

It's bad, but that's the way the game is played. He knew that going in.

That's pretty funny but he knew what he was getting himself into.

I wonder if he is like me, Pepsi is my crack. I drink like 3 or 4 cans a day and have to force myself to drink as much water!:happywave

As I understand it, Pepsi does the same thing.

I've had friends that work for the soft drink giants and both have policy's regarding the competitors drinks. The employee's are made aware of these policy's during their orientation.

My father was the Manager of Coca Cola in the Northern California region before he left to start his own business and yes that was a strict rule at Coca Cola and personally totally understandable becuase it is business and to have an employee drink the competitions soda is very bad for business and pretty much saw hey if their own employees wont drink Coca Cola what does that say a bout the product. So I agree with that rule.

And you know what if you dont like that then dont work for Coca Cola, plain and simple as that.

I dont see why people should make a big deal about that, let them run their company however they want to.
