I am just a Canadian high school graduate and i dont know too much about chemistry although i have taken the chem course throughout my highschool times.

I always have a big question in mind.

Is fart flammable?:Yea right

I remember seeing this clip my friend sent me about this guy lighting his fart on fire and burned his.... a n a l?

i dunno man
ne idea?

As many times as I want to test the theory, amazingly I think it is just too stoopid to test.

Tho with the methane I release, it burns the hell out of my nose.

Never done it myself, but I have seen it done. Yes, it is flammable.

With the real stuff. No...eh..."additives"? If it is the "real" stuff then there is a big danger involved because once you fart it dilutes with the air too quickly so... :rofl2

Never done it myself, but have seen it done... (the things some soldiers will do when they get bored... and had a few too many)

The flammability depends largely on what was eaten I think... Beans and beer seemed to work well

What the actual biological processthat goes on in the digestion to create the Methane... don't know it but because cows are well known for their influence on Global Warming, it probably has to do with vegetable matter rather than meats.
Since Acids are used in digestion as well, I don't doubt that Hydrogen could also be in 'the air' (also VERY flammable)

Aren't there people that do this and then the flame gets sucked back up into the body? Or is that just an urban legend?

Never tried it myself... Don't want any fire anywhere near that part of my body...

Flame shouldn't go up the colon, no air... worst that can happen is you fry a few hairs

Maybe a search of Snopes or Urbanlegends.com will shed some light on where the sun don't shine (yukyukyuk)

i should fart on the inside of sd's computer....it's probably so hot in there from the dell "cooling" funnel that it's burst into flames...MUHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

We've had a thread on this topic before....and yes, farts are absolutely flammable, I speak from experience. It is actually sometimes amusing to watch, though you really must beware, you can quite easily burn your bum. Oh, and Wazman, though I doubt you would explode from it sucking back, the flames can suck back into your body a little ways and burn your insides, happened to my friend Brock (not to mention melting a hole in his shorts, but that's another post altogether). :Holy Crap

Well, I didn't mean they'd explode... :)

I thought I read somewhere that if the flames go back inside, they'd burn the insides of your body...

Well, yes, they can burn the inside of your body...I'm sure its quite painful...the most I've ever lost is my dignity and a few hairs...its kind of a burny tingle but nothing excruciatingly bad, esp. if it gets the laughs that it does (I love to entertain, however demeaning it is to me). :Holy Crap

I'd have to see the medical reports to actually believe that there'd be some 'blow back'. It may have felt like he burned his insides, a hot enough flame will burn the skin through a few layers of derma

But 3 things are required... a fuel, air, and energy... as I mentioned in the previous thread(yeah I remember it)
Because of the 'explosion' of gas... this forces the air away from the 'orifice' therefore no flame internally

Look at the pilot light on the furnace... even there, such a slow flow of gas from the nozzle... the flame doesn't actually start right at where the gas is coming from, it's a fraction of an inch away(where the air can mix with the fuel) from the nozzle, the expelling of gas from a fart has a faster flow rate, the flame would actually form further away

Dont look forward to it :Roll Eyes

Its very easy overall but you dont really leanr anything in depth. For me it was just a bunch of very general topics. We jumped around from human body to how garbage decomposts or whatever. And when you have a teacher who jumps around topics and will go back to an earlier one like half way through the year...it sucks mad :banghead

Well, Raedwulf, you could be right about the backlog thing, I mean I understand it needs air...but still, he was telling us that he was having some painful problems back there for like a week afterwards...though I guess that could be only him lightly toasting his O-ring. :Holy Crap

I only have to look at a flare stack to back up my argument...

if a fire can 'flow' back into the rectum, the operation of a flarestack wouldn't work...
heck we wouldn't be able to get the gas out of the ground without a major mishap everyday
We'd still be using coal
