Scottman
01-29-2002, 01:26 AM
Looking at some of the user names on the board, I couldn't help but wonder how some of you folks came up with them. Some names are self-explanatory. Mine for example, is a no-brainer. My name is Scott, and when Rodney and I were hanging out in our college days, he just started calling me "Scottman" - although I think watching too much SNL might have had something to do with it as well. :)
How did you guys come up with your names? Is Ymaster really a "master of the Y"? How about Bort? C'mon guys. Fess up!
Ymaster

I'm not really sure anymore, collection of many things. It's just something I've stayed with for a few years now.

2. Wh(y) master? (I do ask alot of questions)
3. You can say it like a bro, "Whad Up Ymaster!" =)
4. Registry Find-> Primarymaster

Orangepeel comes from my favourite perfume oil, Satsuma, from The Body Shop. It smells devine.
It's just like the fragrant smell of a freshly peeled orange or clementine. How I love that smell! It make me smile and feel all warm and fuzzy inside :).

Hehe. I once worked with a young lady who often used to say that she was feeling "antsey". One day when she asked me a lot of technical questions, I told her that she was more ascii (askey) than ansi. :)

Phalanx-Imawano
02-06-2002, 06:31 AM
My name is in two parts:
Phalanx - the name (or codename if you will) of the 20mm machine gun mounted on aircraft carriers as a last-ditch defense against antiship missles; said to be a shoot-anything-that-moves gun that never gives up until its target is dead or it runs out of ammo; reflects my fighting style in Quake3, Half-Life/Counterstrike, and other FPS games
Imawano - the name of a Ninja clan, and the surname of two of the characters, in my favorite fighting games, Rival Schools: United by Fate, and Project Justice. The guy in my avatar is actually the brother of one of those characters (though in the game this guy, in the avatar that is, has his mother's maiden name as his surname - complicated story).

How and why did you choose the nick that you use?
Mine was because I liked wolves. When I first got on-line my ISP log-in name was greywolf; however, when I switched to Swbell as my ISP, greywolf was taken (big surprise).
They needed a username that was up to eight characters long. Well, since I was on the phone w/ them @ the time, the only wolf I could come up with was arcticwolf.
Yeah, longer than eight characters. So it got shortened to Artcwolf. For some reason (and the only regret I have w/ this username) many try to pronounce it as artsy-wolf.
What the hell is an artsy-wolf??? Does not even make sense. Oh, well. No biggie, I like my nick.
wazman
04-08-2003, 11:46 AM
I picked mine because of my dad, actually. He's a teacher, and the kids call him Mr. Waz because his last name is so hard to pronounce. So I took that and made it into Wazman.
So that's how I came to be Wazman.
Maarek
04-08-2003, 12:18 PM
I use to go by Leto alot, after the Character from DUNE. I'm a big Dune fan. But after 5 or so years, I decided on a change, and picked Maarek. another Character, from the game Tie Fighter. Maarek is also my main character in Earth and Beyond, and my avatar is a mug shot :)

Mine is from an old Hardware company I used to work for - they made your email prefix from the first two letters of your names. Any guesses to what mine is?

Phalanx-Imawano
04-15-2003, 09:29 PM
My current username is actually a revision of a previous one. The word Phalanx came about after I heard about the gun used by US Navy ships against anti-ship missles (it was called the Phalanx Gatling Gun). Imawano is the surname of a character of one of my favorite fighting games. I just put them together.
My current handle which appears in my signature came from two sources. Sailor came about as a result of my being an anime fan (I know a lot of you will probably think it's lame but even Sailor Moon is something I'm into nowadays, and that's where the "Sailor" part came from). Enlil is the supreme god of the earth in Sumerian Mythology, and I picked that name because it is kinda related to the leading man in the Sailor Moon series - Tuxedo Mask, who is also known as Prince Endymion, the prince of earth. My avatar is my rendition of my handle, showing Prince Endymion with a 7-pointed star on his forehead (that star is the symbol of Enlil as an earth diety, 7 pointed because in Sumerian mythology, Earth is the 7th planet, and apparently this is how the number 7 became such an important number).

well that what i saw from like 2 episodes i was forced to watch lol
I used to think of it the same way back when Transformers was my top favorite cartoon. Then recently I began looking into the entire storyline, as well as information about the original manga (Japanese comics), and saw it differently (the Manga depicts the characters very differently, as in they're more mature, even Sailor Moon herself who wasn't such a klutzy crybaby, and there's even a bedroom scene between her and Tuxedo Mask as in they're both naked in bed together - which was how Sailor Moon became pregnant with her daughter, Sailor Mini-Moon).

Don't know whether this has been talked about before, but how did you come out with your nickname???
thephenom = The Phenom = The Phenomenon
1. An occurrence, circumstance, or fact that is perceptible by the senses.
2. pl. phe”¤nom”¤e”¤nons
a) An unusual, significant, or unaccountable fact or occurrence; a marvel.
b) A remarkable or outstanding person; a paragon. See Synonyms at wonder.
3. Philosophy. In the philosophy of Kant, an object as it is perceived by the senses, as opposed to a noumenon.
4. Physics. An observable event.
So I thought it would be kinda cool if I called myself a Phenomenon. (Wow, talk about being ****y) Ya, so I've been using that name for a while. Now, I usually use that name or Employee #32.

I refuse to watch it myself. I hear there is like tenticle penises that flys all around and the lead character chops off his wanker to replaces it with a demon's chubby and becomes all powerful.

There has been so much rain here in Toronto! Not at all like last year.
Our weather should sound like this:
"We've got a warm front moving thru with sunny skies for ten minutes today...enjoy it while you can.
Remember to put on the bug repellent to combat that West Nile Virus, avoid "Joe's Whasshisnames Burger Joint" in wake of Mad Cow...and we have another wave of SARS passing thru for good measure. Quarantine yourself for the rest of the summer. Masks, gowns, hair nets and goggles are optional...and don't forget the sunblock!!"

Well...for the postcount:
Tantousha is japanese for "The Superior one" and I found it by typing in random words into a japanese-english translator one night.
My favorite retired username has got to be the one I used for Half Life. I always used to use the scientist skin and was known on the servers for going on suicidal missions and just generally acting insane so people started calling me the drunk scientist and that name stuck until I stopped playing Half Life: The_Drunk_Scientist

True, Final Fantasy was a great movie, heck! I saw it 10 times in theatres in honor of the 10 Final Fantasy games (I know there's more but they're not really Final Fantasies) and me being a big fan of Final Fantasy. I only had one complaint about the movie though: the story line SUCKED!!! As if they tried to shove too much in an hour and 40 mins.

Totaly off topic... but can the mods change our title... say for JCYC5, "HARDCore member" to "God of Watercooling"
I think that would be cool that if you get a title from the members, like JCYC5 and Wazman have, that they could get a mod to chnage it to the title given.
I know I am confussing to read, but I think (hope) some of you will get what I'm at.

I know Rodney can do it - he changes the titles of the women of the board to 3GM Babe if they ask him to...
I know some boards allow you to enter your own title after a certain number of posts - on Rage3d it's 600 - but I don't know if that's something that this board software can do automatically or if it's something that has to be coded specially...
Do any of the mods know the answer to this one? Or Rod? I think it would be cool to do, but if it's not possible it's no biggie... Perhaps one of the mods can answer this one...
