One of my friends in Nashville sent along this picture of Mars that a mutual friend of ours named Barry Poteet took. (One of the local television stations has been showing his pics for the past month.) I thought y'all might enjoy it too. Taken with a 4" refractor. The dark spot with the lighter circle around it is Olympus Mons. The bright area on the upper left is the polar cap.
Much better than my drawing...

Dunno...
But a 4" refractor is a kind of lens or something...
Anyway, the pic looks cool.

That picture is awesome! Tell your friend he's awesome...and to see if he can get a bigger lens...like attach his camera to a telescope or something and get a wicked close shot of Mars...I should think it'd make a great background image.

Haha! I remember the movie space camp...the one scene that sticks out in my mind for some reason is where Tate Donovan comes rolling up in his Jeep blaring the song "Forever Man" by Eric Clapton out of his stereo...dunno why I remember that, perhaps because its a great song by a great artist, but I dunno. :Holy Crap

No... I know what I meant... Space Jam... Never saw that movie either...
It'd be cool to go to Mars... I took an Astronomy class in college - I've always been fascinated by that stuff... Maybe that's why I'm such a big sci-fi fan...
But I think it would be cool to go there... Visit other planets and stuff...

Do they have internet access to post on 3GM while in space?:devil
I did Planetary Geophysics once - that was Awesome - sadly just on Unit in a Geology Degree - I would have loved to specialise.
Has anyone read the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson?
Awesome series
