View Full Version : Should a limited size picture be allowed in your sig?

Alrite, some ppl wanted a pic on their signature, no names mentioned. So perhaps we cast our votes and see if a lot of people are interested.
In my opinion, the signature picture should be hosted through your own webserver/ftp server to save storage space on the 3GM server.
Yes, it would probably mean a lil more stress on the dial-up users, but I think most of the threads here have avatars to load, picture size up to 800X600 anyway. So having to load perhaps a few 100X100 megapixel pic worth about 5kb isn't THAT much more, is it?
So please, cast your vote and express your opinion.

Squaregamer.com's forums have a rule.
You may only post your sig once per page. I liked it as it allows you to use a sig but also keeps the thread from being choked with large pictures. As for bandwidth. The forums will load as fast as always. It's just the pictures that will lag behind.

How do you limit 1 signature per page? Right now, ur sig shows up in every post.

I think ur tiny icons are fine, we are talking about maybe a bigger picture than an icon, more like an avatar size.

Not something I'm interested in... Most of the forums that allow this, it's so hard to tell where the post stops and the sig begins. I don't come here to look at people's sigs - I come to discuss things, learn things, and have fun.
So I vote no.

it will add color like the madonion group
i suggest this
option to have picture option to have just text, you enter both in your profile and have option to see pictures and text, , pictures, or just text

I agree with wazman. It trashes the place up too much. If you need it to feel like somebody, go get a life instead. :Mad
No.

I voted no just because of the 56k users. I myself am using DSL and I sometimes have problems to load the babes thread.
I click on it, the text loads, I start reading and I keep losing the text because the picture pop in and push the whole text down which makes it almost impossible to read, which means I have to let it load all the way before reading.
If 56kers want to go to the babes thread I won't stop them from waiting but since I think that a 100x100 sig loading time for 56k is just about the same as 800x600 for DSL people (like me :Blah) then their text wouldn't be unreadable either till everything loads which is a pain in the ass.
One thing to avoid that is to set you posts per page lower which is another pain in the ass.
I think most of us want to have a lot of people they can talk/chat hang out with fun. I mean having longer load times just frustrates people after a while, trust me I had AOL 56k before (:lmao)
I think the little icons are fine as I wouldn't mind mine having them either (like <1k) and I even oppose the one-time per page sig thing...sucks!
Just my $1!

Check it off and your pic shows up. Don't and it won't.

So it takes manual work to do it? Can't be automated?

Could be but it would have to be like ALWAYS the first post on a thread or something like that...I find it stupid :Blah

I dunno. How about an option that makes pics in sigs the option of the person who creates the thread?
If I made on I'd say "yes. I like to see what people can do with PS."
Someone else may say "I like a faster loading thread. I'll disable the option."
Either way these boards are a great place to be. However I've made countless dozen sigs since I've signed up here. I've never used a single one here for more than a minute or two. Anyone up late enough last night saw my Queen sig.

It doesn't really bother me. But i'd prefer no sig. I was in another forum before and everyone had a 640x480 sig and it really took a lot of scrolling and most of them just had a few sentences written down. Sometimes it would take a few moments to load up.
I'm fine with my avatar. So i guess i'm voting no.

In the end I could really care less. Here or not I still post on forums that allow pics.

I see we have some concerns for the 56k-ers......ya, it would probably load longer than before, but what about the avatar, that shows up in every single post, same with the 10 lines text-based sigs. As ch0g0nda suggested, the picture sig could be made so it only post once in every thread, which certainly is a hell lot less bandwidth than an avatar takes up, right?

The image (lol) in my sig is really no larger than my avatar.
Generally it should be the first image to finish loading... Right along with all the avatars.
Let's see what happens shall we?

Don't push too hard now, it'll be disappointing to see you gettign restricted or banned from here.
I'm sure Rodney is paying some attention to this thread and hear how everybody feels. Just give it a lil more time. :thumb

Meh. If I get banned that just means the other forums I post in get more of my attention.
Doesn't really effect me too much.

You'll certainly be missed around here, have you tried e-mailing Rodney to see what his take on it?

I post here more than I post anywhere else. The only message boards I've ever posted on this much was pojo's. It's long since gone from a proud place of intelligent discussion to a spam-a-thon race circuit.
I'm just saying. If I happen to get banned here then I'll just have to find somewhere else to post.

But university is a whole different life than high school. Despite the high cost, it's still FUN, except for the studying part.

Yep, it could be an hassle too, for us, we have to choose all the courses and time for it. It's annoying trying to make your timetable so you don't have morning classes and not to have course conflicts.
But when they's settled, it's one hell of a schedule, I get Fridays off this semester.:thumb

Especially when one class you are trying to take is full and you already have the perfect schedule and you end up with a 3 hr gap between classes.

Yep, I sometimes don't mind that, 3 hrs is great for a workout, some b-ball, or go home for some vintage 3GM, even a nice lil nap works too. And if you have a gf, 3 hrs is PLENTY of time, but sadly I don't, so I'll stick with the options I have.
