Women 'suffer worse hangovers than men'

Scientists have found that women get drunk faster and suffer worse hangovers.

Most common hangover complaints were dehydration, tiredness, headaches, nausea and vomiting.

These symptoms proved much worse in women who had drunk the same amount as their men.

Wendy ****ske, of the University of Missouri-Columbia, said: "This finding makes biological sense, because women tend to weigh less and have lower percentages of total body water than men do, so they should achieve higher degrees of intoxication and, presumably, more hangover per unit of alcohol."

Ms ****ske, associate professor of psychology led the team, in its study of 1,230 college students.

While Ms ****ske believes this may due to the differences in body weight, percentage of body water and fat levels, she believes more research could now be carried out to find the exact cause.

Men were more likely to suffer excessive sweating and vomiting than women but still get off lightly in comparison.

The study was carried out as part of a project to design a "hangover scale" which will accurately measure physical and psychological symptoms of drinking too much the night before.

Researchers need such a scale to improve scientific research on the effects of alcohol on the body.

That's just wrong. As much as they are drunk, most of them still know what they are doing, and you shouldn't take advantage of them having no control physically. On another note, from what I hear from my friends (female ones), girls tend to get pretty horny when drinking. So get to know a girl before she drinks, and maybe she'll like you even MORE after a few drinks. :Nice

ANd most CHinese are worst at drinking since we don't have the gene to give us that certain enzyme to digest the alchohol.

This is interesting, but I'd be more interested to see how this changes (if at all) over longer periods of time... Since tolerance gets longer and longer the more you drink...

So it would be interesting to see follow-ups... (I'm interested in science - even if I can't understand most of it.)

Picture it...March 1996...chilly night in Chicago IL. A 22 year old goes out to celebrate a friends 30th birthday at a small blues club in the city. 1st eating Sweet and Sour Pork, this young 22 year old female starts to down 7 Long Island Ice Tea's. Withing a half hour of drinking the 7th one she passes out and vomits on her shoes, all the Sweet and Sour Pork comes and revisits her..while someone throws her a garbage can.

Then her boyfriend at the time, turned husband then EX husband helps her down the stairs. This young, drunk, 22 year old female askes "Which one"?

That my dear friends was me. I had NEVER in my life had a hangover like that one. I still felt it on Monday when I returned to work.

I know it effects women more. I don't think it matters if the women has more body fat on her or not...I believe you also have to take in account your body tolerence level.

Needless to say after that chilly night in March 1996, it took me 4 more years till I got drunk again. I NEVER want to feel like that EVER again...

I know I am....

Like I said...I have NEVER done that again!

I felt that hangover for DAYS!

My mom asked me if I went to the bathroom alot, I said I did, and she told me alot of it then washed out. And vomiting may have helped too. I am not a skinny minnie lady, so my slightly larger size may have helped me out.

It was stupid and I know that now. They were not big glasses at all where I had gotten them.

Live and learn. That is what I did.

I can never understand the people at work that have to go out every weekend and drink themselves to a stupor and then come to work and brag about it. I just want to tell them they are just making themselves look like utter complete fools.
