Nearly half of Canadian lovers fake orgasms, far more than in most of the world, says a new survey from a condom maker.
And lots of men are among the fakers.
Meanwhile, a full half of the Canadians surveyed have had sex by phone or even by sending wireless text messages, whereas those hot-blooded French lovers shun fancy gadgets and prefer, um, face-to-face methods.
The annual global sex survey from Durex, which has dealt in past years with some serious issues such as how many young people have unprotected sex, goes straight for the tawdry side.
Sex with the boss? Sex with your best pal's spouse? Sex standing up? Sex where you can't get no satisfaction? With a prostitute? It's all there.
AIDS isn't.
So, about those guys who fake it. The global survey found that 26 per cent of all adults fake orgasms at some time, and while the number is higher for women [48 per cent], it's also true that 12 per cent of men fake them. That's nearly one man out of every eight.
In Canada we fake pleasure on a larger scale: 43 per cent of all adults have done so. (A male-female split in Canada isn't available from the surveyors.)
Previous surveys have been done by the traditional telephone route, but this year Durex dropped that practice, which was probably a relief to all those surveyors who had people screaming bad names at them and hanging up.
This year's survey was done online, and got responses from 150,000 people in 34 countries.
Among the findings:
n Canadians have sex on average 119 times a year. That's better than the undersexed people of Singapore (92 times) but way behind those wild Hungarians (152 times) who lead the globe. The amorous French have slipped to just 144 yearly encounters in the new survey. Usually they lead the survey with totals of more than 160.
n Twelve per cent of sexually active Canadians have had an affair with their best friend's spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend. Globally the figure is a bit lower at 12 per cent of men and seven per cent of women, for an average of 10 per cent.
