I was using a standard 128 meg compact flash card in the Canon 300D. Today I purchased a Lexar 512 meg 40x Pro high speed card. It makes a hugh difference in the read and write times. Anybody have experience with other brands of the high speed Compact Flash cards?

The one that comes with the Nikon cameras is an 8X Lexar. The 128MB I use is the standard 2X. It makes a BIG difference in write speed.

I should mention that no flash card comes with the 300D. You have to purchase one if you don't already have one.

I bought a standard 512 Kingston for my 5700 and I'm thinking of getting a Sandisk Ultra II 512 for it. I want to see if the 5700 will really show a marked improvement with the faster memory.
I am drooling over this, though:

I don't think my cam will recognize it, though. :Blah

When I got my S50, I stupidly bought a Sandisk 256MB CF with it... on discovering how amazingly slow it is, I quicky bought a Transcend 256 and gave the Sandisk to my brother for his PPC. It makes a world of a difference.

Sandisks are really slow! Their Ultra costs A LOT more than others whilst only performing at the same level!

I'll take a look at the transcends, then.
Thanks for the recommendation!

Not bad on price, either.

Yup! Thats the one!
It was actually cheaper than my SanDisk...
This is really useful: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/
Sort the test results 3/4 down the page in Write speed (That's what matters most) and you'll find intresting results. The top few have such close results that it's almost ignorable...
But worth noting:
Transcend 256MB: 2,280 KB/s Write
SanDisk Ultra 256MB: 1,755 KB/s Write
SanDisk *shudder* 512MB: 855 KB/s Write

I was searching around and found this web site. This site compares most of the current cards in the current cameras. This guy has found that the camera makes a difference in speed due to the controller in the camera.
Rob Galbraith Digital Photography Insights (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007)
This looks like it might also have a wealth of other information also.

Nice site, thanks for posting it.
I've decided that I'll do some research but I'm not going to replace the Kingston 512 right away since there are other accessories that I need more. The only item that a replacement would address would be faster write times and that just isn't a pressing need at this point.
Hopefully, maybe around Christmas, I'll get a faster card for it.

Or just wait... a 6GB has been released, a 4GB and a new 1GB...

LOL...those are huge!
Funny that the largest hdd's for desktops were smaller than those just a few years ago.
You have to have the newest of new camera's to recognize those cards. My 5700 won't work with them as the camera has to format the card in FAT32 for them to work. I'm sure the 300D would. :KICK ASS

Yerp! Another excuse to get that sweet Sandisk Extreme 1Gig. According to Eddie's site, that performs best with the 300D :KICK ASS
I really really don't need 4 gigs... :Blah

Scuba Diving?
You need to put as many as you can onto a card, as you can't change the CF during a dive...

Belkin made a new adaptor for the iPod that allows for it to be used for this function.
I use this one myself:
