Since I love women and I'm married to the most independent, self assured woman you will ever meet, I post this to honor them.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love you's." More "I'm sorry's."

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it .. live it .and never give it back. Stop sweating the small stuff.

Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what.

Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally. I hope you all have a blessed day.

Beautiful Women's Month

Age 3: She looks at herself and sees a Queen.

Age 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

Age 15: She looks at herself and sees an Ugly Sister (Mum I can't go to school looking like this!)

Age 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly"- but decides she's going out anyway.

Age 30: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" - but decides she doesn't have time to fix it, so she's going out anyway.

Age 40: She looks at herself and sees "clean" and goes out anyway.

Age 50: She looks at herself and sees "I am" and goes wherever she wants to go.

Age 60: She looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves in the mirror anymore. Goes out and conquers the world.

Age 70: She looks at herself &sees wisdom, laughter and ability, goes out and enjoys life.

Age 80: Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have fun with the world.

First I want to say that I respect everyone for whom they are.

I do not agree with a "Womans History Month" any more than I care for "Black History Month". If we are going to celebrate a group of people based on their sex or ethnic background we better start having an Asian History Month, a Caucasion History Month, a Caucsasion Male History Month, a Hispanic Month, a Hispanic Male History Month....

Why don't we drop this bigitry and have 12 months of celebrating that we are Americans.

I apologize if I offended anyone as that is/was not my intention.

I actually believe similarly, because although it is nice to celebrate the additions people have all made to our culture, it also seems like its turning everyone into teams...men vs. women or blacks vs. whites vs. asians, etc. I know things werent always as diverse and cooperative as I suppose they are now...but to me, these months seem to be more divisive than support growth...in these groups, we can only grow as a member of that group, and not as a human being.

The essence of what you say is true. The History Months were started to recognize the contributions to the world of groups of people that are historically ignored. While I myself do not need the Women's History Month to call attention to what I do, the women of the past do.

Are you familiar with Grace Hopper (http://www.agnesscott.edu/lriddle/women/hopper.htm)? If not check the link. She is one of the founders of data processing and her work led to many of the technologies that we as computer users enjoy. She is one of many women the general public has no clue about and has done work to greatly influence their lives.

Grace Hopper is one of my personal heroes and someone I try to model my professional life after.

Just wondering, if there's a Women's History Month, is there a Men's History Month too?

Not really needed as men have never been ignored in our society.

I will read up on Grace Hopper when I get home...but it looks like a very good read (I skimmed over it real quick). :)

I believe that we should study, learn, and celebrate all the important figures in our history, no matter what ethnic background or sex they are. There are many that go unrecognized, unfortunately, and I think we as a country need to work on improving our history studies.

Having specific "months" for specific people leaves many unrecogonized.

Check my husbands posts in "The Sport of Bush-hating" where he speaks of the way history is treated in our school systems. I fully agree with you and him.

Though this is not the Favorite Songs thread I thought this would be the appropriate place for this.

For all the Women:

Love of a Woman
(Kevin Brandt)
Performed by Travis Tritt

My baby knows me better than I do
Funny how a woman has that over a man
I can do anything with her here beside me
Leaning on her is where I make my stand

Where would we be without the love of a woman
Standing behind her man even when he's wrong
The true pure undying love of a woman
Makes a man a fool to think he can make it alone

My daddy was a wild one when he was younger
Everybody told my mama he'd be hard to tame
Full of himself he said 'sir' to nobody
But you oughta see him come a runnin' when mama calls his name

Where would we be without the love of a woman
Standing behind her man even when he's wrong
The true pure undying love of a woman
Makes a man a fool to think he can make it alone
Oh, yeah...

A man goes crazy trying to catch his feelings
Too much pride or maybe the words come out wrong
But that's okay 'cause he's still her hero
Steady as a rock, her love keeps rolling along

Where would we be without the love of a woman
Standing behind her man even when he's wrong
The true pure undying love of a woman
Makes a man a fool to think he can make it alone

Makes a man a fool to think he can make it alone
