This guy's argument is that if all computers run the same OS then all computers are vulnerable to the same exploit, when found.
If someone wants to come up with a better operating system than Windows, I'll be sure to run it. MacOS? Only runs on Mac hardware. Linux? A free operating system can never compete with an operating that's designed commercially. Microsoft has a financial incentive to make their products work well.

No, there financial incentive is to get the OS's out on dedline then make them work!hehehe. The day Linux becomes as user friendly as windows, Microsoft will see its demise.

My point is that Linux can NEVER be as user-friendly as Microsoft Windows because, no one is going to spend the time and energy to do it without getting paid to do so! There's no motivation. Only a commercial product (not Linux) can overthrow Windows, with respect to the home consumer market. As for businesses running servers, fine, they might run their little Apache on Linux/Unix just fine.

I see your point but Linux is becoming more and more user friendly, and people do get paid to alter the source code to make this happen. companies like Madrake who now sell there distrobution are moving very fast in the user friendly direction. I do agree however Microsoft will be around for a long time, we can only hope another OS can take the place of this monopoly! Microsoft itself even expressed a concern about the power of Linux. Linux junkies do have the motivation to nock Microsoft out from under its feet. There has even been talk of Microsoft distributing its own line of Linux software! It'll be interesting to see how the consumer market responds if such a thing happens.

Well...I hate to disappoint you, but I have many customers ask for Linux installs...more stable, and mot distros are just as user friendly...the ONLY thing I can see so far is that there has yet to be a DVD player released for Linux. As for the point of noone spending the time...There are enough UNIX scripters in the world that are sick of the BS'sOD, instability and exorbanent pricesof M$ OS's that they will do whatever they can tp improve Linux.
My very well researched 2 cents worth
