<FONT FACE="Arial, Helvetica" SIZE="3">You may slap me around a bit for this, but I do have another idea for you...

Sherry, what do YOU love to talk about? Rodney obviously has the same passions as the rest of us, but I'll bet there's an untapped market out there. These guys are DYING to hear more about what you like to do.

So, idea: how about demonstrating something you really like to do. I don't know what that would be, but if it were me, I would demonstrate a really simple, but tasty baked salmon recipe. The guys could watch it and impress their ladies at will. :)

So? So, so so? whaddaya think?

Later,

Oh man! I just thought of this... If you really want to do something funny and get a reaction, you should post a short clip from your wedding video. The part in particular I'm thinking about is where the photographer was "adjusting" Sherry's dress in the backyard for a picture. You remember the part I'm talking about Rod/Sherry? That was soo funny I almost fell off the chair when we watched it. Man, your site would burn up!

<FONT FACE="Arial, Helvetica" SIZE="3">Sherry,

I definitely think you should try it out! Just practice in front of the camera without taping, you can even not look into the camera (look at Rodney as you're talking).

I used to be a very shy guy in high school. Then one day, I just sat up in bed, and said, "I'm going to join the Debate Team." The next year, I was nationally ranked, and I've overcome one of the worst fears in the world: public speaking. It really is easy if you do it once.

Isn't the encouragement from all your friends reason enough to consider it?

A couple of years ago my Wife and I spent Christmas with Rod & Sherry. While we were visiting they dug out their wedding video. I was Rod's best man, so we kind of wanted to see what we all looked like in the video.

Well, as it turns out, the wedding photographer had spend some time with Sherry in her back yard doing pre-wedding photos. As he was setting up the shots, the video guy happened to be taping the photo setup. The photo guy was a barrel-o-fun while doing pictures, and basically hammed it up for the video guy. At one point, while arranging Sherry's dress, I believe he pretended to be a dog and lifted his leg as if to spray Sherry and her mom from behind! It's just one of those things you have to see, but it left us all ROTFL.

I will import from VHS to DV, DV to AVI and then to WMV format. Keep in mind that finding the time to do all this is the problem.

Once on my computer, I then need permission from the BOSSwoman to post :) LOL - and that might never happen. If not, I will still have a VCD of our Wedding video.

Don't leave them in suspense any longer!!!

OMG, it was too funny. Just watch this one fly like skeeters.

That day was too funny. We even ended up trimming about a foot of crinolin (the thing that makes the dress poof out on the bottom) off from under the dress. It was a rental!! :) At one point I was just a ball of fabric with legs...

Wedding dresses are beautiful to look at, but a pain in the A$$ to function in... :D LoL!

As I recall, that crinolin was the source of another funny moment later that day...

After the wedding reception was over, I was driving the happy couple to the hotel. Well, about half way to the hotel, Rod informs me that he's got to pee, BAD! After we find a gas station so Rod can spell "relief", Sherry is complaining that the crinolin is killing her, so she starts taking it off! Keep in mind that this thing is UNDER the dress folks. I know what you are thinking... NO, I didn't look! By the time Rod gets back from the rest room, Sherry's got the crinolin in her hand, which is where it was when she walked into the hotel!

Yep, that was a funny day.

I confess...I hated that crinolin by the end of the night! It pinched the ribcage, it bunched around the waist, and it felt like I was sitting on a crunchy, two storey Weetabix tuffet (Miss Muffett style)!

Boy, it felt good to get that thing off...come to think of it, the hotel personelle did look at us kinda strange when we checked into our room. And there I was, wondering why! I guess relief clouds the brain of any strange social behaviour... :D

OK, so here I am again...

A few months later, I finally come back up for some air (I just got a juicy project and have been busy). I noticed that Sherry got her own webcam. Schweet.

That's a great first step! Now you need to go back to our original idea, which was to pick something you really like to talk about, and do a video review! Something we can download and watch, like Rod's, but on whatever topic suits your fancy.

Actually, if you scroll waaaaay back to the original post, I recommended that you not talk about computer stuff. Think up a topic or activity that you know quite a bit about, then try your hand doing a video review of that.

Rod's knowledge and enthusiasm is best served in the computer arena - find yours. You may be the next Connie Chung or some other powerhouse of broadcasting!

Something to think about, thanks!

I'm sure you know more about computers than the rest of the forums girlfriends/wifes.

I had Win2k on my old system (PII300). My girlfriend went with me to buy all of my new parts and what not. When I got home she left for a couple hours while I played and put it all together. When she came over, I booted up my system with Win2k and sat her down at the computer. She says "It looks the same!" I almost fell over laughing.

<FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE="3">Hey folks,

I can't believe how long this thread has endured - nearly 5 months!

Sherry, I think you'd look quite fetching as a sultry brunette. Medium brown, something like that - with your eyes, it would make a great look.

I hope everyone had a great holiday. I proposed to my girlfriend for Christmas, and she accepted! She wasn't expecting it at all, and I gave her this gift that had 4 layers of wrapped presents.

Finally, when she got down to the last one, My parents got her parents on the phone (they were sitting in a restaurant in NYC), and they listened in as I got down on one knee and popped the question. She's been grinning from ear to ear ever since.

So that's my big news. Anyway, Sherry, back to the question I posed in August: What (other than teddy bears) could you do a video review about? I never thought you should do PC stuff - if it were me, I'd demonstrate an easy recipe, or perhaps show off your house or your hometown. Just something simple to get your feet wet.

Rodney, a question for you too: Any word as when the .13 Athlons will be released? I'm selling my VP6 box and waiting until they appear before I build another gaming system.

Happy Holidays to all - Happy 2002 as well!

Sherry, the only thing that gets you to stop hating the sound of your own voice on tape is to just keep on practising. When I first started web-camming with my parents a couple of years ago, I really didn't like having to listen to myself through the PC speakers. Yet, we enjoy communicating via web cam a couple of times a week. After a while you just get used to how your voice sounds and stop caring. Hey, you have a nice voice anyway, so you really have nothing to worry about.

For doing a video on Toronto or the like, the biggest problem will probably be thinking about the verbage you would like to use. I know that when I was teaching a long time ago, that was my biggest concern when delivering course material. The easiest way around this problem is to just try to come up with some of the phrases or verbage that you would like to use ahead of time. You don't need to actually script what you will say, but if you have the key words that you would like to use chosen ahead of time, they will present themselves naturally when you start your dialogue.

Give this some thought Sherry. I really think this could be a lot of fun for you if you get past the initial shyness. You definitely have the right qualities for putting together a video of this nature. You are bright, pleasing to listen to, and very perky. I believe you could do a great job on this.

Good Luck!

egarrard
04-06-2002, 04:13 PM
Sherry, you keep coming up with excuses. My voice, my hair, etc. Isn't Rod the most important person in your life? None of those things seem bad to him. Quite the opposite. So, why worry about the opinions of anybody else?

You do the product pictures, and nobody bites you. I've yet to hear of anyone laughing at the webcam. Nobody will be anything but pleased with the video articles. Even you. (Or at least, you can make Rod keep editing them until you are.)

Of course, I'd like to see you and your girlfiends take the cam and hit Toronto looking for the nice single guys y'all were whining about not being able to find.

Pink hair? No, thanks. It reminds me of the fad of late with all the tattoos and body piercings. Why do people have to mess with perfection?

Hey Rodney, give your wife a hand in cleaning up some of that wiring in her case - that's quite a mass of wires there.

So Sherry, you're over the hump - how's it feel? Were you nervous? You seemed very poised and relaxed - I especially liked that little eyebrow move after you mentioned Quake - hilarious.

Actually, my case has cleaned up quite a bit now...there's no see thru side panel anymore to see all the wires :devil!
