It's a series of 7 books by C.S.Lewis. More fantasy than science fiction, looks like. I was just curious if anyone had read them, and if they are any good. I know there is a movie being made from them (similar to LOTR, supposedly).

Yeah I read em a while ago now...... can't remember the details, but there is like 4 kids who find a sort of fantasy land by walking through a wardrobe. Quite good series.

They are quite good - initially they were written by C.S.Lewis to see if he could write like his friend Tolkien (they were both professors at Oxford University - something that cracks me up when critics try and question his academic credentials):
J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) Assistant Editor, Oxford English Dictionary (1918-1920); Reader (later Professor) of English Language at Leeds University (1920-1926); Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University (1925-1945); Merton Professor of English Language and Literature at Oxford University (1945-1959)
C.S. Lewis enjoyed writing them so much that it became a series. They have a lot more allegorical, christian echoes than LOTR and are aimed more at children but read them and you will be enchanted.
here is a link to the Inkings - that is some club!

  Oh, I disagree! The same genre maybe, but I didn't enjoy Tolkien at all. Well, maybe 70%, but too much is weighed down by all the wordiness. And the god-awful Silmarrion. Gah! It reminded me of a poor attempt to recreate the Ulster Cycle or the Mabinogi. The Silver Hand series was much better.
Eddings series were fascinating to me because they are the same story, just with different characters and settings. And they don't slide into pretentiousness like Tolkien does. They are just enjoyable stories. The Redemption of Althalus is the best of Eddings' stories, though.

Nah - I've read the Mabinogi in Welsh - it is good!
That was Tolkien's aim. Due to constant invasion, England has no Legend Mythology like Wales or Ireland. He wanted to create a similar Cycle. If you didn't like LOTR then you would hate the Silmarillion as it is essentially the legends of Middle Earth.

I still don't like Eddings though! Each to their own!

Maybe I'll see the movies and like LOTR better. I did wonder why they left out Tom Bombadil. He was a strange part of the story. I can't remember. Did he figure in later?

Yea, I had to read a number of that series in Elementary School. After that, I think I read the rest of them. It's been to long ago for me to remember the details though.

Yeah, my older brother had to read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe when I was really young. When he was done with it, I read it, then proceeded to read the rest of the series...they should make for interesting movies. The effects, if anything like LOTR, will be spectacular.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was a wonderful tv series.
I've never read the series. Might be a nice trip down memory lane to do :).
Finished Lord of The Rings in the summertime...a big book is good reading on the transit system. Right now it's the Harry Potter books I'm reading through, in particular The Order of The Pheonix.
