My goodness Whisp what are you talking about?????
This was a contest, a SUPRISE contest as I already mentioned. So the whole point of it was a surprise, kind of a very quick contest/giveaway! If you did get involved in guessing what the heck this was then that’s not my problem. It was also posted on my main site.
You also mentioned this was some ploy to get posts, yea that’s right…. I wanted to giveaway a shirt, pay shipping for 20+ posts…. Gezzzz!!!!!
Just be here and get involved on the next one ;)

I like the idea of having surprise contests like this. It's fun. Also, did you ever play that game where someone requested a picture and you'd have to find it? Then, if you found it, you could make a request for a picture. Anyways, maybe you could do something like that. Request a picture of something, and send us out to go find it.

I tend to agree with Whisp a little... I mean, I didn't really look too hard at that pic, as it was first presented as more of a joke (wasn't the original title of this thread 3DGameman's BIGASS memory or something like that?)...
I figured it was either a joke, a photochop, or some new technology from somewhere. After all, Corsair's LED modules are taller than standard RAM as well, so it's not inconceivable that this could be more of the same...
And I don't see how we could be sore losers if we didn't even know this was a contest until somebody won. I'm going to agree with Whisp - I'm not really in favor of these surprise contest things in this fashion...

Folks,
PLEASE stop all the silly childish (because it truly is) bickering between each other about this SURPRISE contest!!!! :(
Whisp if anyone is aware you are that contests/giveaways are picked randomly. So it has nothing to do with how hard a member works or how many posts he/she gets, etc. So while you help out and post a lot (like many members) I simply can’t pick you or anyone else directly, again it’s a random drawing. If anyone needs a t-shirt (OCZ shirt) that bad and you are within driving distance then drop into our get together on Feb. 13 ;)
If some of you here want to get all upset over this surprise contest (keeping in mind only a shirt was given away) then go ahead. All of you know that I’ve had contest/giveaways in the past and I will continue to have them in the future. So if you have not won yet there is still an opportunity to win. Good luck to all :thumb
lespaul50
01-23-2004, 02:56 PM
How articulate. You big whiny baby. It's a SURPRISE contest. I'm not mad that I didn't win. That guy just got lucky and guessed the right answer without knowing it was a contest. No contest is completely fair to everyone. I bet if you would have won you wouldn't be complaining about how unfair it was.
A simple, fun little game turned into a childish whiney-fest by a bunch of 2 year olds.
And I personally love the idea of a surprise contest. It would be so great to be at the right place at the right time with the right answer. Keep the contests commin', and don't let these whiny brats change your mind about how to run your own sight.

So next time how should Rodney go about doing this?
Does he need to setup a time and date?
Leave a blank slot for the picture with a red X?
All of this might also be fun and would add more post counts.
Then again, your odds of winning would be less because there would be floaters popping into the forum with only 100 posts taking off with the FAT LEWT!
I've been posting here for years, way longer than April 2002 as posted on the Tivons account. And I got number 13...:Holy Crap That can't be good for my Anti-Bad luck.:D

I know you play EverQuest. As an Everquest player you know only the best players that play 24/7 end up in the highend guilds that get all the Fat Lewt. I'm sure your aware that these sort of players normally will win in a Free For All battle to kill spawns for Flagging Mobs and such needed for Time. There should be an advantage for those that spend the time with anything that they do more than others. I don't really spam up a forum either if you read my post count numbers. I'll be honest, I've never won any contest in my whole 30 years of life untill this T-shirt. Maybe I should ask God why it's not fair for Whisp? Then again, I'm not even sure there is a God.

ths comic value of this conversation is immense.....although not in a childish pointing fingers manner, you are still bickering over the fundamental point that the contest was so random that nobody bothered to take it seriously then when somebody did win you got mad that Rodney never informed anybody that it was a contest..... none the less that's the point ... he never told anybody it WAS a contest so the odds of winning are better... you just have to relize that it was and take it seriously..
but other then that good job tivon and a question too you...
why did u pay 328dolla to get the starter motor fixed... there like $150 new at most and 99% of the time there mounted on the front of the engine or on the side in most sideways mounted engines...for me: basically ur taking 5mins at the store with the part number in hand or the actual motor... 20minutes to get the car up and the starter out 5min to put it back on, test it and get it back on the ground....
taking into account that my car isn't under warranty since i pull the engine outa it and the fact that it's an 81'....

umm just to point something out to you, it wasnt a "random contest" becuase if it was then everyone would have known that it was a contest, the fact that it wasnt stated as a contest is what people are upset about, if they would have known then they would have said something but the fact was when you looked at the thread it looked like something of little value and not worth the time to post a comment. That is what most these guys are trying to say but in any case it is over now so not much you can do about it so I guess it would be better to move on :spin

Im a lurker. I tend to prowl these boards and post on occasion.
Do you think that perhaps Rodney should be rigging the contests to pay off contributing members?
Because thats what it most definitely sounds like you are saying.
Also you dont have to have a post count higher than x to be able to speak your mind on these forums
Post count requirements are for 12 year olds and mental midgets.

Two things made this a surprise - the lack of notice for the contest and the absence of the word contest in the title.
You're taking away 50% of the surprise factor by doing that.

Something about these new cars, they just don't make them very fun to work on anymore. I'd take a truck over a car to fix any day! The starter was behind the Mass Airflow and I was only able to reach 2 bolts out of 4. It was good that they fixed it and not me because there was a few burnt wires going to the fuse box and my battery cables looked cheap and crappy with lots of white powder areas. I've checked and it's a whole new starter for 110$.;) It's a nice gold color now where as it was an ugly gray black before.
There was also the cost of the new cables 42$ and 22$ just in Taxes. It was 150$ dollars in labor for both the cable and the starter.
And they did the work in one days time..:thumb
If I had gone to Ford it would have costed me 200$ for just the cables. The cables they made for me look like a street racer!:devil

What if I was picking my nose at the time and missed it?
I was also about to pass on the topic, until I saw that Rodney had posted it.
I was very lucky and found the right information before anyone else had time to think. There is nothing wrong with this, it just left everyone in the dust thinking, "WTF!?"
This would not be any worse than if we know it was a contest and was ready. Because who is to say I would not have got the answer in 1min before anyone else? Thus this leads us back to the same results. Well, now that I've won you don't need to worry about me winning again do ya..lol

love how everyone keeps coming after me since the beginning that i made the point
because thats all it is
is my opinion
I never said that you said he should rig the contests. I asked you if thats why you keep popping off about being a contributing member.
Cast in point proven by your above post.
"and what im saying that have it so everyone can enter and have a chance of it
especially the contributing members"
Why especially the contributing members? Why them moreso than any other?
See my point? English is a somewhat pain in the ass language. If things are said incorrectly they have a different meaning.
Also I know the number of posts required to enter a contest. However you didnt say that. You said
"man people really need to get a clue
and when you have over at least the requirement of 150 come have your say lol"
I do believe the requirement as you stated is 150 to enter the contests. Not 150 to be able to state an opinion.
So once again as I said with you way you posted it you said that if the posts counts dont satisfy you you dont care to hear what they have to say.
"and you say you have read around and all i do is spam then you are smoking some serious crack"
No I said that I tend to lurk the boards and read more than post.
The majority of the posts I have seen from you have been in this thread. Thus far its been whining and moaning about a surprise contest.
I can see your point that once the contest started that you feel it should have been announced as such. However, you dont own the site, nor do you control how things are run.
Rodney made a call on how to run the contest. If you dont like that call then merely contact him in private rather than complain in the threads. Normally I would have PMed you to talk about this if it were on my site but as I am not a mod here its not my duty to contact you in that way.
"i have guides and have helped many people and posted a lot of pics on mods and whatever else"
And I was on the startup crew for DriverHeaven and still have a close working relationship with its staff as well as the staff at Abit, Microsoft, ATi, Giga-Byte, Rage3D, Sapphire, etc.
I also own HotWired PC and am currently working on getting a web presence for it up and running. Unfortunately I never did delve into web development as I am a Hardware Nut.
Things you have done should be done for the satisfaction of having done them. Not to establish who's the man ;)

congrats that you won on a giveaway that more then 99% of the forum couldnt partake in lol
see thats your problem
you cant just post something simple.
You keep having to take that parting shot rather than keeping your damned trap shut.
Now I know Im gonna get in trouble *sighs*

No one had more of a chance than others. It was an equal surprise contest. The only people that had more of a chance to win were the ones that visit the site more often and take more interest in Rodney's threads. The one's that are too busy trying to post as many messages as possible were the ones with less a chance I guess.
So, I guess it WASN'T completely equal. You had to visit the site alot and look at all the small details to win.

final note.. who cares...
i'm guessing that 3dgm is thinking he should rethink the idea of an unannounced contest considering the length this thread's achieved in 1.5 days...
second...they probably are racing wires tivon... lol... look better and prolly cost about 2dolla mo.. but to you they charge an extra 10 bucks :lmao and prolly a dolla mo in labor just cause the guy spends an extra minute thinking about how he's making that extra dollar...
lol

Yah, you might be right about the extra 10$ and Labor. I've already fixed enough cars to know I needed air tools for this job and a nice lift to remove the starter. I could have got a better deal with my best friends brother at his shop. All though I'd have to pay around 2.50$ a mile for a trip I know is 40minutes long even on the highway.
I've already fixed a modded this car so much I've probably saved 3K$ at this point. I was so ready to remove that starter man. I had all my tools out and jacked her up with a smile on my face. Then I cut my hand reaching for the @#$@# motor and just looked at it funny. My wife said, "It's okay hunny.. you tried." That didn't really help me none. :p
I'll never buy another Mercury car ever again!

I would give almost anything for a Les Paul... I wouldn't even play it. I'd just sit there and stare at it all day.

I don't think there will be another surprise contest done here. Sure you can try, but most of us now will know that when we see something like "BIg ass ram" in the future or something else posted by Rod, we'll know he's thinking of something and we'll all just jump to a chaotic guessing game.

Well, life isn't always fair. Most of us realize that and grow up; others... don't.
You had a chance... you have a chance. He holds contests regularly. You can't be mad because you didn't jump as quick as someone else.

Still arguing about the contest. Meh. What's done is done. It's all Rod's decisions and we're not the ones to judge.
