I know Wazman and I would LOVE to go. The drive according to Mapquest is about 9 hours from where we are. Total miles: 591 In Febuary the weather can be iffy this time of year.

However, in the spring, summer and fall it would be perfect!

Note to: thewhiteguy..

According to Mapquest from San Diego:

39 hours

2583 Miles. I would fly...

Why so sudden Rodney. Feb. 14th doesn't leave much time to make plans. If it was say... March 14th or April 14th it would give more people more time to make plans.

As for me I could make it because it only looks like a 4 or 5 hour drive from where I live. But less than a month notice doesn't look good for me to make concrete plans. Besides, the 14th is my girlfriends birthday and she'll probably want to do something special.... hey wait.... taking a trip to Toronto might be "something special".... Hmmm.... maybe I should talk to her about it.... I'll get back to you. :p

ya I agree my work requires at least a month or two for scheduling time off and I would have to do when college is ona break so timing all that by chance would be hard, but hey Rodney if ytou ever decide to come to Cali Im sure Efer or me would be more than happy to set things up, even free room and board in one of my uncles apartments :D

Guys...I'm in for fun the same as the rest of you...but instead of suggesting alternative locations...why don't we keep somewhat on topic with the current location.

And, for that matter, though I don't know Rod's opinion on the topic....come up with an alternative date, like for one this summer or something, when the roads will be better, more people are likely to make it (myself included), and it'll be less cold...because Lord knows, if its this cold in Ohio...I can only imagine what Canada is like right about now. *shudders*

I'll more than likely have another get together in the late summer. Let's see how this first one goes first though.

I should have more details for everyone on the exact location and time next week but it will be held in Toronto, Canada at some large pub/restaurant. I have a couple excellent locations in mind but if anyone knows a pub/restaurant owner here please email me at gameman@3dgameman.com

School first and then it's in Canada too. I would go if it's Summer but hopefully I'll be visiting Australia next summer.

I hope you'll find a way to bring it to California one day in the distant future. If you plan ahead 3 months then tickets shouldn't be problems (airplanes) for people from the other parts of the US.

- I do not have all the details yet nor am I 100% certain it will go through, however…
- I do need to know approximately how many will be attending because if it does go through I hope to have shirts (from sponsors of mine) for those people who show up (depening on how many attend).
- Voting at the top of the page is very important, so please vote.
- The location that this will take place is still undecided but I have a couple of large pubs/restaurants in mind.
- Keep in mind there will be camera equipment, so anyone who is camera shy should keep this in mind. The video coverage of this event will be posted on 3dGameMan.com Feb. 14th ;)

I will post more details on this event later.

Darn Rodney, I will not be back into port until 11 February at the earliest. With all of the details and reports I will be in Norfolk for the entire Valentines Day weekend. Ed will be here with me so unless a miracle happens; we will be busy that weekend. Give us more notice for the summer get together. I doubt I'll be stateside but Ed should be able to come. Maybe he could pick up a few of the guys on the way up then.

Oh yeah...that'd be brutally awesome, get to party with Ed and Brandi and everyone underneath a warm Toronto Sun.

I know you are waiting to see Rod how this one is going to turn out before planning a summer one....but by the looks of things, this one is a little rushed and stuff, so please, don't write off one in the summer if this one doesn't get as big or fun as it could...when I lose some of the school responsibilities and stuff over summer, then I'll be just fine to come, and I'll try to bring some people with, like Sylvia and whatnot (if allowed).

My brother lives by Jamestown, NY. so it is a dual purpose trip. It's only an 8 hour drive or so from here... We're planning on going to the Canadian side as I have been told that side is more scenic and where all the good pictures are taken from. I will go through Rodney and Sherry's thread about thier trip for better details when it gets closer. Right now it is just an idea of what we want to do, no concrete plans or reservations yet. If there is a get-together we can take an extra day off just for that with enough warning.
Our first honeymoon was to Colorado Springs,CO( think Pikes Peak) but that was just a 4 day weekend to pick up some things I had left in storage after I moved.

As of now I'm thinking it will be held at Paupers Pub (http://www.madisonavenuepub.com/paupers/buildingmap.htm) and that's a restaurant/pub so age doesn't matter. If you are under age you obviously can't drink alcohol but there’s absolutely no problem attending if you are under age. Sherry and I have eaten there many time in the past, they have great beer and affordable tasty food :thumb

Nothing. Just an ID. Once in a while if you look suspious or if they just feel like it, they will pull you to the side and ask you a few more questions about why your going into Canada and how long you plan to stay. And then going back into the USA is basically the same way. But 99.9% of the time it's no big deal crossing the border.

I will be bringing some Sherry FragOlicious shirts (http://www.3dgameman.com/sales_main.html) along just in case some of you want to purchase one. They are $20CAN.

This might have been true several years ago, but you need to be a little more prepared now. Bare minimum is some form of photo id AND proof of citizenship. A drivers license with photo works fine for photo id, but is not proof of citizenship. A birth certificate with a driver's license works fine. You might get through without being asked to produce either, but If I was travelling from Texas, I would rather be prepared.

Yes, this is the first 3dGameMan.com get together. I'm not 100% on how many will be attending but considering there is ~10 days before the event and according to the poll I expect between 30-60.

Well, I hope plenty come to this event because I have loads of stuff to giveaway. Currently FIC (providing shirts), OCZ (providing shirts, pens, posters, coolers), Spire (providing shirts, coolers), Thermalright (providing cooler), Vantec (providing CCF lights, pens, mouse pads), XFX (providing posters) and I expect more sponsors to get involved as well :thumb

There is an upside for the rest of us there, however, assuming a turnout lower than the amount of giveaway stuff, at least a glimmer of hope for such....that those of us that cannot make it might be able to partake in the goodies in the form of a large, multi-winner giveaway (yes, I know there is one currently going this month, but still....let me hope.)

That would be fine but I seriously urge everyone to try and make it if at all possible because even more sponsors are sending stuff. I currently have FIC, OCZ, Spire, Thermalright, Vantec, XFX and I believe BAWLS and ABIT are now onboard. So there will be an absolute ton of goodies you will miss if not at this event.

Actually, it is perfectly legal to take pictures of someone and use then any way you want so long as the pictures are taken in public (which is where this get together is going to be). How to do you think the paparazzo get away with taking pictures of famous people and then selling those pictures to the tabloids.

At least that's the way it works here in the USA. I'm not sure what the law is in Canada but I assume it's probably similar.

I wasn't trying to make anyone paranoid. I was simply correcting the assumption that taking pictures of someone in public is illegal. The fact that Rodney said he wouldn't post pictures of anyone that didn't want their picture posted is just Rodney been courteous. But he wouldn't be bound by any laws not to do so if he so chooses.

But I would also assume that Rodney is a gentleman and would defiantly respect people's wishes.

Updated event information (PLEASE READ):

- The event will start at 8pm in Paupers (539 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Phone: 416-530-1331). If you are traveling from out of town I suggest you take down Paupers telephone number just in case.
- Once there, proceed to the 2nd floor at the back.
- When you spot us, come over and we’ll ask you to write down your name on a piece of paper (this will be used later for draws on the coolers or other larger value products).
- After that you will be asked your size and the make of t-shirt you prefer. We will also give you a pen, poster and a mouse pad. Please remember the t-shirts are on a first come first serve basis so try to be there on time.
- By 9-9:30pm we will draw the winners.
- From 9:30pm-10pm I will ask those who want to be on Camera to do so. Please remember the entire event will be recorded on Camera. Most of the time the Camera will be pointed at me but it’s important to note that just in case you do not wish to be on Camera.

Well, it's a pub/restaurant, so probably the minimum age would be 18... I don't know though. I'm not sure what Canada's drinking age is. But live entertainment probably means a house band or something like that.

Rod & Sherry,

So sorry I missed this event. You guys may have noticed that I was quiet on this thread... I was supposed to finish with my current work client last week, so I was hoping to surprise you guys by dropping in at the party. Last week my client decided to extend my contract for a few weeks, so I really wasn't able to get away.

Hope you all had a great time. :thumb

Please thank your sponsors especially OCZ for their generousity. I really liked their ram sinks! I think I should keep this post short since it's 4:30am in the morning...I should really be in bed. All in all, I thought it was a great idea to throw a party, it really helped me relax after a week of studying and exams. Well, I guess that's all I have to say right now, my brain is cramping up, better head to bed.
Night!

P.S. To all who couldn't make it you missed one kickass canadian party!!!!

(And for those who were there, I just got back home about fifteen minutes ago, so I'm off to bed :Boring for a couple of hours.)

Yep, I believe I will in 6 month (~Aug 2004). While there weren’t many who showed we all had a fantastic time. I suspect these things take time to grow.

The next time I will give everyone at least 2-3 months notice because the announcement of this get together was a bit short noticed and therefore not giving people time to plan, etc.

The legal drinking age varies from province to province. I know here in Alberta it's 18, someone once told me that Saskatchewan's is 17, and that in Ontario it's 21.... but I don't know what's true anymore

I'm afraid not. It will be at Paupers (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) again because it went very well there this time.

A lot of people are getting off late at work on Friday. I definately would have made it down if it was on a Saturday, because on Friday I didn't get home from work until 7:30 at night.

A fairly solid date for the next get together will be on July 31th, 2004. This date is about as perfect as it gets because Aug. 2nd is a civic holiday in Canada. This means a long weekend for many working folks. Cya there ;)

Yeah man, that'd be tons of fun for a b-day. I mean really, who else could say that they went to Toronto for a huge get together for 3dgameman.com on their birthday?? Heck, I'd give ya one coin of every denomination of our money for a present ((I'm cheap, what can I say)) But yeah, great time for a get together in TO.

I agree imtim83!

Summer will be easier on travel....no threat of snow and blizzards during July for us out of towners!

Plus, summer is when most of the students here are out of classes!

I agree with Rodney, these things take time to build up! But knowing well in advance we can make plans:thumb

I think I can say with some authority that I am neither:

a) the woman in the front in the first picture with the strawberry blond hair, kneeling and giving the thumbs up, or
b) the man in the second picture with the dark hair and goatee being held up by other people.

Beyond that, I can't be of help.

Just thought that some of the people originated from the forums. I might have been mistaken.

I know that Colin is from the forums. He doesn't post much, but he's from here. The rest of the people I can't say - I only know people by their forum names, and since Rod didn't put their forum names up, I can't tell who's who.

egarrard

I put a request for just this thing in the sticky thread, but it got ignored. A list of forum names with real names would be good.

dom_6(sic)6
06-21-2004, 02:11 AM
AFAIK rod didn't publish who was who because they were entitled to be annonomous or something, and he asid people that were there can say who they were, but not who others were . God I'm confused now.

3dGameMan
06-21-2004, 08:32 AM
The reason I'm not identifying forum names is to respect people’s privacy. If these people want to be known they will post, telling everyone who they are. This will also be the case for get together 02, only first names will be used.
