Those squemish by the human nature of feet, veer away from this thread now.
Dude, I got one bad record with my feetz.
Summer of 2003: Athlete's foot
Fall-Winter of 2003: Ingrown toenail on right foot
Winter of 2003-2004: Ingrown toenail on left foot
The athlete's foot was cured with some Lotrimin AF.
Ingrown on right foot: Suffered for about 4 weeks. We just thought it was an infection. Treated with medicine. Then, we got a second opinion because it wasn't getting any better. Took it to the dude, needle, freeze spray, cut, clean, done. I got that fixed in 10 minutes after suffering for 4 weeks. That sucked.
Ingrown on left foot: Started hurting about a week ago. Tried to perform surgury myself. Yes, surgury. As in, small tools to prop the nail and cut it. Well, apparently I didn't get deep enough and it came back. So, before it got any worse, I thought I'd nip it in the bud and get it cut. It didn't hurt the first time. Just the initial prick of the needle. This time, it was the needle, then i felt the scissor (But, I won't go into that). That was a little.....squemish. Luckily, I had my iPod to listen to to take my mind off the pain. :Wink Now, I have this big-arse thing on my foot. Have to soak it 2 times a day for about a week or so. I forgot the exact number.
Now, I'm a hobbling feind for the next few days. And, if anyone steps on my foot at school or anything, there will be heck to pay. Because, this is not something you want pressure on for a while. Well, at least that's over with. Now, hopefully, the nails grow in straight on both feet so I don't have to have the procedure done again. :Nice
Below, the dreaded foot.....:devil

remind me to step on that tomorrow ;) lol j/k
i had a plantars wart on my heel and for those you that havent had one, the funny thing about them is that they actually grown into your foot not outwards. Doc's been treating it for about 4 months with extremely painful acid that causes a blister about an inch and a half in diameter... lol.. kinda hurt my tennis game ;)
by the way, that freeze spray is something we call novicane for your foot- otherwise known as a local anesthetic (sp?) thought id share my words of wisdom :)

Yup, been there dude!
My tip too you... Have your doctor send you to a pro foot doctor!
What they will do it freeze it, then do some shots. And then they will stick some que-tips with something that kills the roots that cause the problem. Otherwise like with the first Doctor I went to it just grows back and you suffer for nothing all over again.
I didn't have the freeze stuff the first time and almost pasted out from the pain.:surrender

I had the same problem in High School. The first doctor, just pulled the nail off, and expected it to grow back. It did. Ingrown. By that time, the other big toe had become ingrown.
The second doctor did better. He pulled the nails, but then dug out everything on that side of the toe, down to the bone. Now I only have one toe that looks fairly normal, although the nail doesn't go down into the flesh on one side. The other is all screwed up. I'd post a pic, but you'd really be grossed out.
The toes aren't ingrown anymore, though... :rofl2
Ah, medical advances. :luxhello

i had an ingrown nail once. after a fair while of tolerating it i went to the doctor.
it begame ingrown again, but this time i left it alone. terrified of what the doctor would do (again). it was not as bad as the first time though.
My Mate's Ingrown Toes were what got me into IT! He had both done at the same time and was laid up at home for a week - they needed someone to cover for him and I got the call (I had gotten him a job in the bar I ran beofre).
Favours work!
All Hail the Toe!

Your "This little piggy went to market" is down and out in bandages!
:lmao
Too bad you've got a tender tootsie there, S_D. Hope it heals up nicely for ya :).
Maybe you cut them down too low? Cutting too low tends to make them susceptable to growing into the sides of the toe. My grandmother had horrific ingrown toenails from wearing shoes too small and too tight. Ew!
When your feetsies get better, try a good soak in warm/hot to stand soapy water with some hair conditioner or hand moisturizer (yup!) mixed in and some bath salts once or twice a week. It will soften up the nail and the skin around it enough so that you can clean off all the toe fluff and dead skin from under the nail and around the cuticle with a blunt metal nail file. Finish by washing the salts off and rub in a foot cream. Peppermint will improve circulation and help tootsies heal faster :Nice.
But don't pick at them with a sharp object or pull off the cuticle around the sides of the nail...you could end up with a nasty infection.
I'm on my feet all day at work, so I tend to be fastidious with foot care at least once a week to keep them in good shape :).

Stand all day...:jawsdown
If I'm on my feet for 8 hours my ankle would lookup and swell. I should get that looked at, but I don't want them poking at my bones with knives.. Doctors = Evil! Lol
Now Try sitting all day like me.:D After 8 hours your Gut grows and your neck hurts. Then your eyes hurt looking at the monitor all day and your hands start to cramp. :Yea right
I feel like a big ***** sometimes saying stuff like that. :o

You know that little bit of skin that grows around the area where the toe/finger and the nail join? It kinda looks like silicone caulking for the nail, heheh. That's the cuticle :).
You can get this stuff called cuticle remover which will soften up the dead part and help slough it off. It really helps peeps like me that are constantly washing hands and beating up the nail. I've had to learn to take good care of my hands and feet, 'cause my job puts a beating on both :Sigh.
Hey, S_D...has anyone called ya "Hop-a-long Cassidy" yet at school because of the busted foot? If so, whack them once over the head for me too please, lol :smash!

Nope. No one knows that I have a busted foot except for Quinn and cR i 5M. I just go about my normal day. Nothing special that gives off my guard. Walking up and down 4 flights of stairs in my school though is sort of bad. Oh well, I'll live. :Wink
Also, I'm told to soak my foot 2 times a day. Warm water and epsom salt. It doesn't sting, unlike the other one. Now, I'm just letting the air hit it. Only have a bandage job on it at school and during my sleep.
Also, yes, ingrown toenails are caused by cutting the nail too low. But, I don't think that was my problem this time. Believe it or not, this is also hereditary. I guess how the skin grows on your toe depends on certian genes. My grandpa gets ingrown toenails too. I don't know anyone else in my family that got them, but I could find out. :Wink

I never had a problem with ingrown toenails....but I do have a problem with Athletes Foot:Crying
Once you get it, it tends to reappear sometimes. Air out your shoes really good, and have many pairs you can wear...and keep them dry and use powder too...
Keep them tootise's dry:)
