Cat Saliva Cleaner Than Dog Drool

BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) -- A young scientist says cat drool appears to be cleaner than that of dogs. Lacey Lafromboise, a fifth-grader at Turtle Mountain Elementary School in Belcourt, earned a trip to the Native American Science Fair in Albuquerque, N.M. by proving that her two dogs have more bacteria in their mouths than her two cats.

Lacey said she got the idea for the study while one of her dogs was licking her face.

Lacey tested the saliva of her cats, Jasum and Daisy, and her pet dogs, Copper and Lady. One of the dogs spends most of its time outdoors. She said that dog has more bacteria in its mouth, probably because it chews on things outside.

"On the other hand, the indoor cat is dirtier than the cat that spends most of its time outdoors," Lacey said.

She hypothesized that the indoor cat's habit of eating table scraps created more bacteria.

Her mom, Sandy Lafromboise, got permission from a science professor to use an incubator and a microscope at Minot State University.

The experiment won Lacey top honors at some science local and regional fairs.

Lacey said she will probably improve on her experiment before heading to Albuquerque. She said she may retest her pets and make a new display board.

Lacey said she's also practicing questions that judges may ask her.

Would be interesting if she tested herself, the two dogs, and the two cats.

Maybe she could chart on a graph the differences in the bacteria count, and the types of bacteria present in each organism. Different bacteria have a way of colonizing a petri dish in really interesting shapes, depending on the strains :).

That is not a hypothesis. A hypothesis would also present an expected outcome and the reasons for this assumption.

Which book did she write? I've read quite a few books in my day... Always looking for something new to read.

One thing I don't understand... If a person is that intelligent, why would they waste their time captaining a ship? Why wouldn't they become a scientist? Or something like that? And find cures for diseases and help people. It seems odd that playing a jumped-up version of Battleship is the best way for a person that intelligent to spend their time.

I was basically ignoring the tone of that post. The 'book' he is referring to is her report that she wrote for her month at Woods Hole.

As for being a Navy Captain, her permanent assignment is NAVSEA (http://www.navsea.navy.mil/), which is the navy's engineering command; they do everything from design buildings to nuclear reactors and ships. They also do much classified research in concert with DARPA (http://www.darpa.mil/). What she did and will return to at NAVSEA is classified. She is TDY (temporary duty) to the fleet for command at sea experience due to orders from the CNOs office. She is being groomed for flag rank and should become the navy's youngest admiral in about two years.

As for why she chose the navy as a profession, you would have to ask her but she wanted to follow in the family tradition as her grandfather, father and three uncles have served in the navy. That is what she has always wanted to do and that is what she's doing.

BTW there is no comparision of the game 'Battleship' to what her primary and secondary missions are.

She already is a millionaire many times over due to the family investments, she doesn't need the money.

As for a job in the city, as I said she is doing what she wishes to do which is her life's ambition.

I would not change anything about her. She has about 12-18 months left on sea duty until she goes back to NAVSEA.

They tried to diagnose her as ADD because she was bored and not paying attention to the class work. She was doing 2nd year college work due to intensive home schooling when she was required to start the first grade. It took several weeks for the school system to come to grips with her intelligence. Her mom finally threatened the school system with a practicing medicine without a license law suit before they relented and tested her. After that she was tutoring the high school kids and teachers, working on her college level work and working on her Martial Arts during the school day.

Her sister is having the same problems with Brandi's niece Rachel. Which is doing 9th and 10th grade work at the age of five.

The reason that she has so many degrees is that in the Military (at least in the UK I know for sure), you can do "Accelerated" courses that cram the work into 8 weeks or so.

I have been to Uni and in my time there, I probably learnt about 8 weeks of useful stuff in 3 years - if you breakdown the total study time over 3 years it isn't much.

As for training on wooden floors , Aikido quite often train on wood

Doesn't take 3 years for advanced degrees. Usually takes 12-18 months. She is known for doing multiple degrees at the same time. She picked up two masters and two Ph.Ds in a 13-month period on two different occasions. She was awarded four of the other masters degrees in a 6 month period due to her performance and the quality and detail of her work. Woods Hole awarded her a master for her work in October.

As for time to accomplish what she does, she doesn't waste time, she multi-tasks and she usually only sleeps 3-4 hours a per night when she is not with me. She is one of the most driven people I know. She is a prime example of what a person can do if they apply themselves.

To answer the question as to why you haven't heard of her, it's because they keep things about their family as private as possible and they shun attention just as they do in their charitable work. I already said more than they ever would because not only am I proud of her but I am in awe and I've said all I'm going to say on the subject. She will answer any more questions if she wishes.

As for Martial Artists getting Pwned by street fighters - it is not unusual. A lot of MA is Koryu (ancient style ) and is done more for discipline and mental strength rather than "Kixkass" ability.

I do Japanese Sword Battodo - the only streetfighter that would beat me would be one with a gun - however, to utilise my style I would probably get shot by the poice so it is a moot point!

number1: no slandering and bashing has taken place at all.

number2: it is none of your business what goes on in private conversations anyway. If you must know, we have talked about websites and hardware, along with a myriad of other topics. That is all I am going to say on the matter.

Now, in my opinion I would not ban any of them. That would be completely ludicrous. They have done nothing wrong. If I asked someone for details of their rig, should I be banned? Becuase all they are doing if asking for some info about stuff. Its up to the person concerned as to whether they should give it or not, but bashing...... no no no.

Judging by the tone of this thread, there seems to be a lot about Ed and Brandi talked about. And none of it good. As to it being none of my business, when it carries over into this forum and winds up like this thread did, yes it is. And the business of everyone else on here. Are we to be next on the hate list? It's one of the reasons I rarely used the PM system, or MSN. I don't have anything to hide from the rest of you.

As to proof? How are you going to get any that you would believe. I'd rather just assume that what you tell me is the truth, unless I see otherwise. I've been seeing a lot of that kind of thing on here lately, unfortunately. A lot of mean-spirited lying and back-stabbing seems to be going on. That's what's dragging these forums down.

I came into this thread hoping to make a funny comment about the cats and the dogs. It turned out to be a feud between whisp's converts and the Johnsons, only Brandi couldn't defend herself.

Just about every single thread that Ed has started, whisp has jumped into and trashed. And the rest went right along like lemmings. I used to really enjoy whisp and his arguments. They actually had a point. But lately... Just look at how dead the forums have become because of it.

But, to get back to the point, you're right, I don't know exactly what you talked about. But from the gang mentality I've seen here tonight, I can guess. It's a fairly obvious thing. I just wish Rodney would quit letting your "private converations" turn you all into an online pack of thugs. It's ruining what he and Sherry have worked for here.

1) I do not speak to anyone outside this forum, except for one time when eferz and I were emailing about that guy who crapped all over my cell phone thread. So if someone here tries to call me an "online thug", they'd better have their facts straight.

2) egarrad is right - it's bejohnson/egarrad/et al against Whisp/et al. I've pointed this out numerous times and everyone told me "Oh, you're full of donkey doo-doo." I may not have superintelligence - hell, compared to the rest of you I can barely tie my shoes. But sometimes even the dumb people can see what's right in front of them.

3) Rodney - we as a forum have been talking about closing Off Topic for what? Two weeks now? And we've given you several suggestions. You don't want to do any of them. So if you're going to close it, then close it and be done with it. It's your site and your forum. But otherwise - and here I'm begging - if you know it's the same people every time, then do something about it. If it's me, ban me. I'll take it like a man. I'm just sick and tired of the way this place is nowadays.

I'm just saying to everyone, what do we really come here for any more? When we just see the same old things over and over and over again. Why do we bother? What are we hoping will magically happen to make things better?

Are we indeed kidding ourselves?

I know I'm never going to be a mod. Not here, not anywhere. I volunteered to try and help, and nobody wanted my help. I've played devil's advocate to try and help people see both sides. I've tried to play peacekeeper when I can to end conflict. It's not helping. What can I do as an active member to make things better?

I hereby apologize for anything I said to invoke or incite any bad feelings anywhere on this thread or this site. I'm sorry that I did it, and I will try to do better.

If that helps, there it is. That's all I can do.

Now, it has to go both ways. I want apologies as well. I want apologies for the "online thug" comment. I want an apology for all the insulting PMs I received from a certain individual but never said anything about.

And I want this to just end. Either with the closing of Off Topic, or with bannings, or with the closing of the entire forum, or with whatever it takes. Either we find a solution and we find it now, or we give up and go away. But we've been dealing with this since October and before, and it's just getting ridiculous.

I'm sorry to speak so bluntly. I'm sorry to those I have pissed off, or if this pisses people off. But come on. I may indeed be the dumbest person in this forum. But even I can see how bad it is.

If you want to tell me to **** off, my email is rhythmmaster2000@yahoo.com. You can email me there and tell me just what you think of me. You can bash me there all you want. You can call me any name you want, insult my parentage, imply that I have sex with farm animals, anything. If that's what it takes to fix things, then go for it.

Again, I apologize for everything I've done. And I hope you all realize my honesty here for what it is. Not another attempt to incite. Not another personal attack.

I'm offering myself as the sacrificial lamb here. What happens next is not in my hands.

Well, I apologize to everyone I may have offended, whether they were involved with this or not. Call it a blanket apology for my behavior in general. If anyone here has an issue with that, again, please email me at rhythmmaster2000@yahoo.com and we'll discuss it.
